They said I returned stuff too much, but between cut alterations (ie change of an items fit) and the fact that their runs sell out quickly I am kinda like wtf am I supposed to do?! I'll be on the fence about an item after it's announced and end up purchasing it just because I know if I don't, it could very well not be available to me when I do decide. Then I may keep it or I may return it if I decide finally that it's not for me. But yeah... their small runs make it difficult.

Just chiming in to say I very much appreciate the tone and substance of the last couple pages of posts. Great topic to explore and something I've thought a lot about.

It came up a lot at Nau (where I worked for the company's first 2 years) and rightfully so, since we were focused on real costs of goods, sourcing/using more sustainable fabrics and pushing (at the time for sure) the existing aesthetic of outerwear. Remember, Outlier, Veilance, even Rapha, either didnt' exist or were barely nascent as recently as '07-08. Not sure about Isaora and others mentioned....

Hopefully, I don't sound like some Outlier hater because I did and still do like a lot of the stuff that they make (and have bought a ton). It's just their outerwear as a whole misses the mark for me. I'm not sure if it's due to the popularity of the brand, but I miss the transparency.

Now someone sell me some black Climbers in a 33 :).

I dont own any of the jackets but I do own several of the schoeller fabric pants, love them all but haven't paid retail for a single one, got each for under 150 shipped on b&s/ebay/sample sale, also picked up 2 nomads with a discount coupon they put out a while back, ended up like 130 a pop shipped, at this price range its a tremendous deal, another 15-20 in tailoring and done, only problem now is that soo many colors look a lot alike, also wished they didnt pill so bad on the inside (same on both brands btw).

But if I was to get a technical jacket or coat, I'd go for sisp, acrnym, veilance on sale as my first choice, I've never been interested in outliers outerwear (overpriced or not), shirting is where I'm starting to get intrigued though.

What the hell? So they restocked on shirts and I didn't get a freaking email and now my size and color are sold out... I'm on both the restock list and the mailing list. I wonder how many they even make to begin with... Hype is unreal with Outlier.

I was checking the measurements for the new OGs and their thighs seem to be a lot slimmer than the slim Ds, 60/30s, and even the climbers. Do they fit that much slimmer? The 60/30s and Slim Ds fit well but I'm kinda worried the New OGs would look painted on in the thighs. Anyone have any experience here?

Also -- I got an e-mail about the merino/co restock...

Wait a few weeks for the next restock on the OGs, perhaps they'l fix the problem in a new batch.

Massif is discontinuing their 'civilian' line. They are traditionally a military/fire-fighting clothing company and were trying to break into the urban techwear market but I guess they didn't get much traction and decided to refocus on their core business. It's a shame really as there are a few gems in the collection and I'dhave liked to see how much they improved in their second or third year. I'm still considering that massif leather jacket (how many other techwear companies work with leather? It's a bit rare)

^^ i just googled "massif collection" and everything was precipitously marked down... i might get one of those blazers. i generally agree with a poster in this thread who said that tech blazers are "the answer to a question no one asked," but for $70 it might be worth trying one out. here's a link to the leather jacket suyi references:

    http://www.massif.com/collection/jackets/l-001-patrol.html

thanks for the info on massif, suyi. unfortunately, re: the OGs, i don't think it was a mistake really; it's just the measurements that they list for this particular model pant. i was pretty surprised that the thigh is so slim; in my size they're a full 2.5 inches slimmer than the slim Ds (1.75" slimmer than the 60/30s and 1.5" < the climbers). given how slim i've heard the climbers run, the new OGs seem like they'd be unwearable for me.

on a happier note, one thing i like and appreciate a lot about outlier is that they provide extensive measurements for their products (particularly the pants) and lots of detailed information about their fabrics. i've been enjoying the convo here about outlier v. other brands, and i have gone through just about every manufacturer's website that's come up so far, and outlier is head and shoulders above everyone in that department as far as i can tell, which is pretty important (to me at least) when you're spending significant money on something that you're not buying in a store.

I swear I saw the massif site before and all the prices were still that low. Am I wrong?

You have to consider that the OG's have 4-way stretch where the dungarees don't. They're not going to feel that much slimmer.

They've been on clearance since May, and last pricecut was in September so you are not wrong.

They also added some old/warehouse stock after the last price cut. The grey wool officer's blazer was available for a while in September after supposedly being sold out since last season
