Everybody knows the Star Wars dogfights were based on WW2 movies (which were themselves based on real events!). The only thing I haven't heard is that anyone tried to hide it. Do you have a source?

ofc Star Wars is recycled ideas from ww2 dogfights, medieval knights, Buddhism, westerns to Dune and Kurosawa. It's all nicely blended. Most art is in some way influenced by previous creators. Why is this a problem suddenly?

If art is based on previous art, could we throw off Thrawn?

A huge amount of modern sci-fi has its roots in the work that was done in John Carpenter of Mars. The irony in seeing people accuse the recent movie based on the property of being a rip off of the Star Wars prequels was not insignificant.

There's influence and then there's just outright theft. Lucas is the latter. The man never had an original thought in that huge melon on top of his neck in his life.

I'll be the first to point out Lucas' fault but this is just plain dumb. The man created some universes rich with lore that have stood the test of time. The fact that scenes in some of his movies were influenced by the work of others does little to change that.

I agree with this more than Harv's view.

Those Entertainment covers aren't very good...

This is the video Harvey's talking about, I think. Judge for yourself (though keep in mind that some of the scenes are generic and that one line in particular seems to be a homage rather than a ripoff):

Yeah apparently trench run in ANH was modeled after this movie. Doesn't change my perception of Star Wars though. ANH and ESB were great movies so much greater than any sci-fi that came before maybe with the exception of Alien and to some extent Star Trek TOS. Many of Lucas ideas were not original, idc.

Alien came after Star Wars, FYI.

I'm really starting to wonder if Kylo's face is badly scared under that mask. The scenes they have shown without it only show the back of his head.

Probably cut himself with the crossguard of that saber.

Anyone else notice that his cross guard sabers connect in this pic near the top? Weird since we know that's not the design. Might be a screw up?

They must have seen this thread and fixed it in post-production.

I don't believe it's been mentioned in this thread, but that light saber design is really dumb.

As much as we try to defend it and secretly hope it doesn't suck...ataturk is going to be right.

You know there is going to be a scene in the movie where he blocks a blow to the hand with the guards and his opponent's blade just so happens to hit further outward instead of cutting through the intersection point.

I doubt it will happen, at least for this film. Kylo has to carry over for two more films and his lightsaber is very much part of what Disney hopes becomes his iconic design. Why draw attention to such an obvious fault (if it is one) when he would be using again in future movies. If it happens it will likely be in the final film of this trilogy.
