how's that going to work with him directing Star Trek as well? isn't this going to cause a rift in the space-time continuum?

If it does, I bet it'll look a lot like a lens flare.

So does this mean the new Star Wars films are going to be fast paced, shallow, competent action movies?

I'm good with the choice. He's been very public of his love for the original trilogy over the years. No way he's not going all in here and give it everything he's got to make these films work. Just a little uncomfortable with the idea that he may not be in charge of the rebooted Star Trek franchise anymore. In fact it feels like something of a betrayal. Always been a bigger Star Wars then Star Trek fan, but enjoyed the work he did on the Trek reboot. Perhaps he will remain on as an executive producer or something.

The second one looks very promising too.

Assuming he doesn't helm the third Star Trek movie, two solid films is more than enough for your typical trilogy franchise.

I say, save all your good ideas for Star Wars! Now, that's a franchise that is in dire need of assistance.
