Cool fight scene. Now Jon knows his valyrian steel will kill a white walker. I forgot how they revealed that in the book.

That ending almost makes up for the sand snakes.

Only gripe is that now all other plot lines are insignificant in comparison.

Depends if they have entirely departed from the book and have decided to finish it in a way they want I'm speculating on an active role for the dragons in the war against the white walkers. Also whats John Snows blade made from?

But who knows there are what at least a 12 or more? story lines to tie up and how many more years will the show run for?

Mind you I haven't read the books so I can only go by what Mrs GF has identified as departure points from them.

His blade is valyrian steel. The same kind of steel that Ned Stark had and Tywin had it melted into two for joffrey and jaime.

I guess the next question is will he survive past next week? Trailer is a bit ambiguous on that point. And does Queen bitch get done over by that big bull dyke nun?

First great episode this season. First good one for that matter. Cersei pretty much stuck to the book. Arya was Cat of the Canals, which was awesome. Jon was off the page, but it was great and I wish the episode had been named Patchface. It was like everything he ever said, oh, oh, I know.

The shadows come to dance, my lord, dance my lord, dance my lord. The shadows come to stay, my lord, stay my lord, stay my lord.

In the dark the dead are dancing. I know, I know, oh oh oh.

The crow, the crow. Under the sea the crows are white as snow, I know, I know, oh, oh, oh

I will lead it! We will march into the sea and out again. Under the waves we will ride seahorses, and mermaids will blow seashells to announce our coming, oh, oh, oh

White Walker are the creatures who lead the dead. They are some unknown race and live in the land always winter. Little and less is known about them, other than dragon glass and Valaryan Steel (dragon steel) can kill them. They convert the dead into undead and make them their minions. The wights are the zombie like undead who have been converted by the White Walkers. Wights can be killed by fire. Presumably, White Walkers can too, but it's unconfirmed.

Can you kill the wights with just swords and bows / arrows? Or can they only be killed with fire / dragon glass / dragon steel?

Wights can't be killed with dragon glass. They are frozen meat and the dragon glass breaks against their flesh and bone. Fire is the most effective. because they are undead it's somewhat unclear what happens when you hack them to pieces. They seem to continue to fight short of limbs. I can't recall whether we've seen a headless body continue to attack. Conventional weapons work. You do not need Valaryan steel.

To paraphrase Sandor Clegane - Bugger on your Ser. I'm no knight. I like dogs better than knights.

    Awesome episode.

I hope the giant gets to Ramsay and pinches his limbs off one by one.

Every great house has a valyrian steel great sword. The Lannisters lost theirs and appropriated the Stark's blade (Ice). Jon has the Mormont's blade.

Wait. Mormont is a great house? His land is one of the 7 kingdoms?

Stark, lannister, the Veil, Baratheon, Dorn, Queen of Thornes' land, and who else, Riverlands?
