That is a lot of effort and hadn't seemed necessary before. I guess I will just run a clean cup each time first for as long as that works.

    Heads-up for anyone interested:

The Nespresso website (at least in Canada) has a promotion starting 06-November-2015, where if you purchase a machine for a minimum of $199 CAD you receive a $100 rebate a week later that can be used on accessories and coffee...!

Should I buy the Inissia w/ milk frother for $199? Or the Pixie for $249? The Pixie doesn't seem to do much differently, and it's bigger/heavier?

How often do you clean (ie de-scale) your machine?

If you haven't done it for a while, it could be worth doing so as that could be the root of the problem.

If it doesn't fix it, then it's probably a more serious problem.

just fwiw if you like milky drinks then do the former. I have a lower-end machine (i think it's the most basic) and for my three-or-so cups a week it works without any hitches. I would imagine the bigger machines are quicker and might have marginal improvements on texture etc but I wouldn't know.

That said... wow, that Milano is good. It's supposed to be a ristretto but as a full espresso it's wonderful. Really well balanced and flavorful, just gets under the line for too intense for me.

A new limited edition should come early next year the salesman told me.

I also picked up a pod of alternates last week because they were like $4. All the flavors were good but man... they're all kinda watery and not in a good way.

Oh, yeah, meant to mention those... they are all Christmas-themed and I didn't even waste a pod to try any. Palermo is sold out but I was told it is essentially a more intense version of Milano. Never got a chance to try Palermo. Milano is almost sold out!

I mentioned the Malabar Monsoon and the sales rep (Frenchie) got all sad, dipped his head and went "yes, that was a very successful one."

    BRING BACK THE MALABAR!

Palermo was still available at my local Nespresso store this past Saturday. I bought 12 sleeves.

Thank all for the advice. There definitely seems to be some kind of mechanical failure looming. Yesterday, he machine made clunking, grinding, hissing noises and drained the reservoir into the catch basin with each clunk/hiss but wouldn't work at all. By chance it worked today. I looked at replacement models and I think I would rather get it repaired. Has anyone any experience with long out of warranty Nespresso repairs.

I had the same thing happen to a Keurig machine once, but not with my Nespresso. I would suggest reaching out to Nespresso tech support to see if they have any suggestions.

The Tanim at first sip isn't that complex but it is quite nice. I greatly prefer the Umutima but I've only had one of each, so...

^Not a fan. I don't dislike robusta, but this is just unpleasant. Too bitter etc.

Too bitter? I mean, to me at least (and I am hardly an expert) it is no more bitter than an average cup of coffee/espresso.

Yep. Very bitter. I have a dark Italian-style espresso roast with 25% robusta here that I brew in a French press that's far more balanced.

Are you drinking it as a lungo? Standard-sized lungo or significantly less?

Has anyone tried the Cubacita or the other LE? I'm having a Rosbaya and it's just perfect.

Hoo boy. The Cafezinho do Brasil is just not good.

I've found that Brazilian coffee (or at least coffee in Brazil) has this harsh, medicinal/chemical taste to it and the Cafezinho just accentuates those flavors. There's a little nuttiness at the beginning and end but the crescendo is the bad flavor. Thank goodness I only have one capsule.
