I expect Curry to bomb 123 3s from halfcourt in Game 5.

It definitely spoils the achievement. You play the regular season to get into the playoffs and compete for the championship, so in that regard it doesn't matter how many wins you chalked up in the process of qualifying.

There's no perfect parallel to this, but the best I can come up with is in F1 where an awesome qualifying time does have its benefits (pole position/home court advantage), but who cares about it, if you don't ultimately win the race?

The one thing I don't want to see is Toronto in the Finals. As cool as it is to see a team with a so-so roster overachieve, I just don't think it would be a good series with them involved.

No one is going to remember. I hate the Bulls, but at least they won. It's kind of disrespectful to that Bulls team that you break their record, and don't even win. Not too long ago you had former Bulls saying that GS wouldn't stand a chance against them, and I thought it was sour grapes on their part. Now I respect even more what they were able to accomplish. If anything GS just reminded everyone again how great those Bulls team were.

Of course people will remember. It will be remembered as exactly what it was. A record breaking regular season that ended in disappointment. But the regular season is still a record-breaking achievement and as long as that record stands, it will be a meaningful achievement. After the record is broken, they will be the answer to the sports trivia question: What was the best NBA team to not win the championship that season?"

The 18-1 Patriots come to mind.

18-1 patriots didn't have a record, they tied the record

Also, the fact that people remember how big the loss was means something as well.

If the record is an undefeated regular season, then yes -- although they actually went 16-0 regular season v. the Dolphins' 14-0. If it's wins in a season, they actually broke the record.
But if the record is an undefeated season (including the playoffs), then no.

NBA vs. NFL isn't a perfect comparison since given the number of games and the multi-game playoff format of the NBA it's not really conceivable that anyone would go undefeated.

After watching the ESPN 30 for 30 about Cleveland, it's hard not to root for them.

Haven't seen it. Is your reaction more about empathy for the team per se, or the fan base/community more broadly?

It was more for the community. When they get to Lebron leaving, it hits home why they behaved that way after 'the decision'.

116 wins that season. Absolutely ridiculous.
