Wow. Pretty cool stuff. Sounds very difficult (practically building a small town), so props to him for attempting to tackle a big task.

"I just thought, in this league it's always been about winning and winning has always been rewarded," Lue said before the Cavs' shootaround Friday morning.

Really Tyronnyron? Is that how you ended up with your current job?

I think there's been some chatter about the possibility of KD to the Warriors in this thread and here's an article outlining how realistic it is: http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2016/2/2/10898196/kevin-durant-warriors-rumors-free-agent-thunder.

As a Warriors fan, not sure I can get behind this. I do think the Warriors are more likely to win with KD then without him (although certainly you never know) but winning with a blockbuster free agent won't be as special as winning with the mostly homegrown cast has been. I would rather see the Warriors keep the core together and win another championship or two with this group and an ensemble cast and think that it's a realistic possibility if everyone stays healthy, certainly given how well they are playing at the moment.

This also reinforces how utterly and completely powerful the salary cap is in setting the stage for success in the NBA. I think a lot of fans of former top teams think that their team will once again reign supreme (*cough* lakers and knicks *cough*) but it's really more about the strength of your front office and some ping pong ball luck, in addition to coaching of course.

You would think that the Lakers have an advantage in free agency because of the size of the market and fanbase, but they can't beat out the Clippers for players and there's no reason to believe they will be back at the top anytime soon. Knicks fans have been thinking the same thing for 40 years now and other than a few nice years with Ewing in the 90's, they haven't been that close. Maybe the Lakers will surprise everyone and land KD this offseason or in two years both he and Westbrook, but I think more likely is that they squander their picks and continue to fight for scraps in the Western Conference until a new ownership group comes in and has some good fortune with the ping pong balls and an actual NBA caliber coaching staff.

Lowe's latest cast got me to revisit Kukoc, goddam I forgot how good he was. I kinda remember him as a big bodied long range gunner but he could do so much more. Help's explain why those Bulls teams were so hard to stop.

It's the same podcast rebranded as ESPN.

Hmmm. Reddick's is worth checking out.

Funny how ESPN is actually making an effort for Barnwell and Lowe now. Shows how far they were going to screw over Grantland

Anyone paying attention to the ESPN All-Time #NBARANK? My analytics buddy was one of the 100 voters and telling me about it today; pretty interesting stuff. The system they used was cool - they basically let you vote on pairings and used the results to create an ELO ranking. Also, although the discussion seems not to be focused on that, the voting was based on peak value, not just lifetime contribution so from that perspective guys like Steph and KD do pretty well. My friend just pointed out that, for instance, Steph is shooting 10% higher true shooting (67% vs 57%) than Shaq at age 27 on similar usage. Of course, perhaps some recency bias as well.

All I know about ELO rankings is that #1 is pretty much inarguable:

Isn't ELO that guy from Cleveland that Jordan hit "The Shot" over?
