What are some good rock songs to "buy"? Anything from this decade that isn't heavy metal / emo

By leaving out indie music, you're really limiting yourself. Most of the mainstream rock like Nickelback or 3 Doors Down or Creed is totally awful, while a lot of independent musicians have tons of creativity and talent.

What artists do you currently like - naming a few musicians with a similar sound would really help out.

The Black Keys.

Muse.

Wolfmother. (Click here, listen to "Mind's Eye" then "Woman".)*

And, of course, Tenacious D.

* Brian SD - if you're reading - these guys are playing in San Diego on June 13, you should check 'em out, they're awesome live.

I second Tenacious D, songs like Wonderboy and Tribute are just plain awsome. I recommend The Mars Volta to anyone who will listen. I was recently introduced to My Morning Jacket at the Pearl Jam Concert, they are an awsome live band and they seem a little more in tune with your current likes.

That's incredibly general. I could give you thousands upon thousands of suggestions if I knew what you enjoyed.

Try Gov't Mule's "The Deep End" (I think it's 2 volumes).

well pearl jam, red hot chili peppers, neil young and bruce springsteen are still churning out records and they still sound as good today as they were before, and maybe even better.
