Small world. I just met Greg from sportbikes4hire this past weekend. Great guy. He was furnishing a couple of bikes for the instructors at the Total Control Advanced Riding Class I took over the weekend. He told me they had a special for the two DRZ 400 bikes, 3 days for $499 for the pair.
Anyway, on Friday I zigged and zagged across Western NC. I had prepositioned near Boone and rode the Blue Ridge Parkway for a while before jumping off to head over to Hot Springs, NC. I love the road to the south out of Hot Springs. Ended up taking the Cherohala Skyway into TN and going up to Marysville where they had the class. Then I headed out to western Arkansas to visit family and run some roads out here. Arkansas has some great riding too. I plan to head back to Eastern North Carolina on Sunday. I will end up logging a little over 3000 miles on the trip.

Nice. I may take a vacation out there to get some instruction then followed by practice.

Greg's fleet is well maintained. It's impressive. Good to know about Arkansas! Ride safe.

Do you guys have any advice for not scuffing up your left shoe/boot when you ride? I feel like a nancy for asking, but I just ordered a new pair of Katahdins and don't want to have the left boot looking way different than the right. I like the worn in look, but I wouldn't mind avoiding the shifting scrapes if they are avoidable.

I have seen neoprene covers for the shift lever. The problem I get on my 1000 Mile boots is that the rubber puts a black stain on them.

Install one of these on your bike, it will keep your boots looking pretty.

I have made a big patch out of thick leather that straps on the boot with a modified bicycle toe strap. I haven't had the chance to use it yet though.

You're overthinking this my friend, they are work boots. They aren't supposed to look pretty forever..

A couple of shots from my recent adventure. The second shot is on Hwy 8 (Western Arkansas) near the infamous Mena Airport.

Gnat - did you ever encounter the clogged gas tank breather tube issue with either your Bonnie or Scrambler?

Seems to be a fairly common issue and I think it's happened to my bike.

Ahh you're right. I felt like a wuss for asking, but I just wanted to see what my fellow fashionable riders thought.

Having a suicide clutch would be SO fun, but I feel like I would end up killing myself. I guess that's where the name comes from...

Buy an old Brit bike. Then switch off bikes each day. You'll have equal scuffing on each boot.

Weird, I have never had that problem. What makes you think this is your issue?

I like the way you think. Not the most obvious solution, but surely, the best solution of any I can think of.
