We are upside down in the southern hemisphere, so boots would be helpful when walking through the mud that accumulates on the ceiling.

The austerity boots MTO order just updated, it says order introduced in the system. Does that mean they're going to start making the boots soon?

Meermin informs you that your order has been updated.
Please check it at your Personal Area at out Website.

Thank you very much for your confidence.

Tried to register. Said email was already in system. Clicked forgot password. Get an email that has a blank for password. Can't login like that. *shrug* Lol.

I'll just wait for my invoice and not worry about it I guess.

    Me too.

They sent me a password, which was my first name, but that didn't work either.

    Is this for the boots?

^Same for me. I contacted them and they are looking into it. I'm not too worried about it though.

Carmina has no brand defining last/designs compare to Alden Indy Boots/LWB, AE PA/FA/Strain, C&J 337, G&G SJII, EG dover/galway, JL Philips II/City II/William/Lopez, Vass budapest/F/U, etc. Even the Italian guys are known either for Norwegian Sewn/blake/rapid construction or those patinas.

    Neither does Meermin.

IMO, that's why you see so many MTO by Carmina (and to a much lesser degree Meermin) by different retailers, of the retailers' own design/imagination. They are more ODM.

p.s., not saying that they don't make great shoes or beautiful shoes

    http://www.theshoesnobblog.com/2013/06/leather-quality-how-it-varies.html

I found this to be a good insight into leather quality for the unitiated. All my leather shoes (AS, Trickers) do this - clearly I haven't 'spent enough' to get top quality leather. But also as the article suggests this is one of the areas that a shoe maker can use a lower quality leather and 'get away with it'.

I got a very unpleasant surprise from UPS on my latest order. Whilst the US duty import rate is about 8%, UPS now request me to pay a brokerage fee which represents a whopping 43% add-on to what I have already paid Meermin for the shoes. So for an order of $424, I will now have to pay an additional $180 (of which only about $40 is US duty fees). Just to be clear, this add-on does not include the €35 shipping fee that I paid when I initially made my order on the Meermin website.

Whilst this has not happened for previous orders, I have only myself to blame for not researching this properly. It is however IMO nothing but daylight robbery from UPS. I suppose they do it simply because they can. It has however taught me a valuable lesson in that I will never again order anything online where the goods will be imported into the US by UPS (Fedex are probably the same).

I also think that if Meermin really care about their customers - they should be upfront with this when you make the order (ie that you will be charged massive brokerage fees on top of duty and sales tax), so you at least can take that into account when making the order. They may also consider other means of shipping, which limits the extra fees to duty and sales tax. And if they still want to use UPS - UPS does offer shipping options where brokerage fees are included, which IMO would be a lot more transparent towards the customer.

Check out the past few pages of this thread. The same thing happened to another poster, who contacted UPS to find out the reason why. He was told it was an error on Meermin's part that involved putting down the wrong code for the shoes.

The people working on the larger MTO's should really work with Meermin to minimize the situations with the duties.
