Jessica Paré is French Canadian. Maybe some of 'em are just uppity and put on airs?

This season failed to meet my expectations. Just a bunch of unhappy people, being unhappy in the same ol' ways people are always unhappy.

For the parents, hiring a Belgian and Julia Ormond does that. The actress from Pan Am, however, is more Quebecois than Pare.

Ormond! Of course. I knew I recognized her yet somehow didn't put it together.

Still, I'm sure Pare doesn't speak like that to her real mother, assuming she's Canadian. It's like Mexicans speaking like spaniards when they're supposed to be playing Mexicans. I'd find a québécois speaking Meghan more endearing than a French speaking one. Or, why not just make her a French character?

I heard that once when Celine Dion spoke on French TV, the snooty French put subtitles on to make her comprehensible, so thick was her dialect.

On an all next episode of Mad Men...

Megan: Don! Why won't you let me be 'appy? I want to become an actress!

Don: I do want you to be happy!

Megan: Then why won't you support me? You probably want me to fail!

Don:.....Why do you keep placing the wrong emphasis on some words?

Megan: I don't know what dat is supposed to mean!

Probably better they didn't go down this route.

I don't know any French Canadian people so this whole discussion is gibberish to me.

    Carry on. :nodding:

"Side by each" and "a pair of toast" are always amusing to me.

That's pretty deeply layered - Don was in bed reading a Bond novel a couple of episodes ago. "You Only Live Twice" - he's lived as Dick Whitman and as Don Draper. And he had one life with Betty, so maybe he's only getting one more life with Megan, i.e., one more chance to make it work, find happiness, etc.. While it was on we saw shots of most of the partners, and the lyrics go on to say, "one life for yourself, and one for your dreams". They all need the agency (or what it can provide) to live their dreams. The agency itself is a reincarnation. And is apparently about to evolve again. And, YOLT is a nice, moody, period-accurate song.

Or, Weiner has a hard on for Nancy Sinatra. :rotflmao:

For the record, I thought the blonde was Megan's friend.

So what, another 18 months to kill now? When does Boardwalk Empire start up again?

Boardwalk should start in a few months. It'll end just a week or so before GOT and Mad Men start back up :slayer:

So Megan's friend is trying to get Don to cheat?

Or was that Megan across the bar?

You can watch the final scene here. I noted that Megan's friend had an accent, but the woman in the bar does not.

That's some super sleuthing. Glad you cleared that up because I was wondering about that too.

Well, I hate to feel stupid, and if they were the same person and I didn't notice, I'd feel, you know, stupid.

So, I've answered my own question. I found an interview of Jessica pare on Canadian tv. She's forgotten a lot of her French and tends to slip into English. Her québécois accent--in contrast to the guy interviewing her, is barely perceptible.

In season 4 (the episode in which she, Dr. Faye and the other women where behind the one-way mirror) Megan said her mother was originally from France.

I immediately thought it was her friend. Re-watching the scenes, it might not be. Seems odd that the friend wouldn't get some sort of revenge prior to the end of the season. Why drop that plot point completely? I suppose it could reemerge...

I still think they look the same. In fact, they look too similar. Casting did that on purpose. Why cast two bit parts that look identical?

The other girl at the bar was in no way, shape or form, Megan.
