Man that looks like a really good deal, I'm on a tight budget and I've been looking for a new pair of jeans (hopefully unwashed) and these look really good. My question is... if these are actually Reds then shouldn't they shrink? On the Levi's website if you go to the Levi red 514 section it has a warning that the Rigid Scraped shrink up to one size when machine washed so I am not exactly sure if I should go for a regular fit or size up (which I wouldn't want to do since I won't be washing these jeans for a long while). btw n00bish question [IMG] : the Rigid Scraped does mean unwashed/raw right? So they will fade when washed?
I guess I'll find out about the shrinking in a few months. Hmm. In any case, yes the Rigid Scraped is unwashed, so they should fade with wear and washing. The denim is a little soft; it's being stubborn in taking creases. They're starting to form on mine (Saturday being the only full day I've worn them), so I'm not worried, but they do seem like they're going to be a little annoying to break in. I'm not sure you'll get a really high-contrast fade with these unless you're a bike messenger or something, but I'm not really looking for that in any case.
The label will say "Rigid Scraped" if they're raw. That's the only "wash" of the 514 in which it comes raw (in the US at least). Everything else has already been washed and (usually) predistressed.

I just got mine in the mail yesterday. I have to say they look and feel very nice but they are most definetly not 514s. They have the red tag on the back and they have that little cloth tag that says they are red Straight Slim. So I am pretty they are in no way the jeans that were advertised on their website. But I am not complaining, 68 dollar jeans for 32 dollars.... I love you Saucemaster... and I must say I am eternally in debt to you.

Haha, thanks, but as far as them being/not being 514s--the 30x32's I got measure exactly the same as my 30x32 black 514s (waist, rise, thigh, knee, etc). I'm pretty sure it's the same cut, they just gave it a name (instead of a number) for the Red line, trying to keep the lines separate.

Those pacsun 514 soft rinse jeans look pretty decent, although $20 more than the raw ones.

Sorry for the double post, but i wanted to find out some stuff about these so i could possibly order them before they took the deal off.

I didn't see the raw 514s at macys while i was at the horrible gainesville mall, but i did try on the pacsun soft rinse 514s. The coloring is actually pretty nice and it's red tab and the quality felt pretty decent(not too cheap at least. It was my first time trying on the 514s and i liked them except they didn't have my inseam because i need a 34. I think i'd rather have the raw ones for 16 dollars less, them being raw and all. I'm still not sure what waist size to get though. The 31s fit perfect on my waist and seat, but i felt like they looked a bit tight in the leg when walking. The 32s didn't fit as snug as the 31s, but still fit good. I was just worrying about stretching.

They don't carry 31x34s on the macy's site. If i got 32/34, do you think they'd stretch out too much, or would there be a way to do a slight shrinking in the waist with a inside out cold or warm soak or something?

You can't really shrink the waist, and any raw denim--actually, any denim at all--will stretch a little wherever there's pressure applied. Less pressure, less stretching, so the 32s won't stretch as much as the 31s would, for example, but they'll still stretch a little bit. The length is probably going to get a bit shorter, however, if anything, and if you really need a 34, I doubt you can make 32s cut it. My suggestion would be to go with the 32x34s, but you may be out of luck. [IMG] On the plus side, you're not out very much money if it doesn't work out.

Thanks. 32inseam wouldn't fly. If i were to get 31x34 of the pacsun 514 soft rinse that was linked last page, do you think they'd stretch in the thigh at all. They fit perfect in the waist and seat, but i wasn't sure about the leg. My girlfriend said they were fine, so i should probably just listen. I'm just debating about getting 31x34 soft rinse or 32x34 raw.

just wondering, will a cold soak hurt the indigo and fading process?

It will but I don't think you need to worry about it as much. You'll get rid of a lot of indigo which might end up on your white shoes or clothing.

I just got mine in the mail. Can't beat the price.

I'm a little put off by the creases on the waist, knee and shin area already. For people who have these already, did these go away on their own? Would cold rinsing, or steaming get these out, or will these not be as noticable after a few weeks.

Those look good... wish I could find a pair here. BTW, do the Rigids have any spandex/stretch in them? Somebody correct me if this could screw up raw denim, but maybe you can try flipping the jeans inside-out, spraying down the creases with some water, and iron it on high.

I wore mine for about a week solid to set the creases, and now I'm just wearing them when I want a shiny, raw-looking jean, but in areas where the denim wanted to form its own creases--the lap, for example--the "real" creases ended up taking over the artificial ones. The ones on the shins just sort of sit there and look weird, though when you're actually wearing them and they're bunched up I'm not sure they're even really visible. I haven't tried steaming them out yet, mostly because I'm really lazy.

Yea, I figured the ones on the lap and knees would be overtaken by real ones, the shins just kinda bothered me. I might hang them by my towel when i'm taking a shower a few times or see if my girlfriend has something to steam it with. Not like it would take much effort. Thanks for the feedback, sauce. Yea, they definitely don't look like $32 jeans.

It's good, because it buys me some time to put away a little bit of money at a time from paychecks to buy an actual nice pair of jeans around winter break time. I'm sure I can find a high end denim shop somewhere in Orlando in a month. There are so many little ritzy areas that there has to be one.
