For someone that works in NYC, is it worth it to get an AMEX (Gold)? Theres a $175 yearly fee, but the rewards are pretty good. Just wondering why its $175 when there are many reward/cash back cards that are great too and have no annual fee.

For sure. If you lived in Kansas City it wouldn't be worth it, but since you live in NYC it is a must.

The AMEX will also perform search functions on Style Forum for you. Really worth getting.

I hear Amex Platinum will help you discern which females will put out for you.

...and Amex Centurion actually arranges for said females to meet you at your home or hotel.

I've posted about this elsewhere but I used to have an Amex gold and I laser printed out an iron-on decal of a black card and covered it.

This is a New York centric thread. I'm just trying to help this young man out.

I once bought a wife with an Amex gold, and the points earned me a nice honeymoon

hey, does Amex break-or-lose warranty cover that, too? That's a hell of a perk

There's an unsubstantiated rumor that you can redeem Amex rewards points for empty Hermes boxes

Green card is really all you need. Platinum only makes sense if you do a lot of international travel and purchases since it alleviates FX fees. Not really sure what gold card gets you other than extra reward points.

The best part of the AMEX Black card is that since it's made out of metal, it demagnetizes almost instantly. So all of the peons you encounter will have to manually key-in your account number every time you use the card.

    Gotta agree.

Lol. Look who doesn't have a black card. It's titanium, non-magnetic.

I don't care what it's made out of. As one of those peons, I've swiped a lot of them, and none of the magnetic strips have worked.
