Yeah, I don't get the paranoia some people have over features like that. Why would a billion dollar company give a fuck who I am or where I am going each day?

    Because they could monetize it.

My boss was telling me that his father was a travelling salesman until recently and despite the conveniences of EZ Pass he refused to buy one because he didn't want "the man" to know where he was going.

Interesting. Again with apples liberal employees I rather take the risk of breaking the phone and having a genius (guy I went to high school with) fix it for free. Or I could use the spare 4s/blackberry/droid/revolving account upgrade and call it a day.

    re: Verizon

It's not free for users on the unlimited plan.

    did the sechs happen? :satisfied:

Is the limo part of your lifestyle or just a one night thing? If it normal then I would have called the driver and asked him about it, most of those guys wont screw you over. (assuming the driver has been working for your family/company for years, at least in my experience)

Apple's not collecting that kind of data to monetize it, but let's say they made a change to their T.O.S. and started doing so. The company would have to provide a way to "opt out" of this, which once it became known many people would. For those that did not, the data from Apple's millions of iPhone owners would be collected in aggregate and any use of it would be completely automated. Much like the data Google uses when they track your web surfing habits. I'd probably still opt out of it, but I don't see it as that big of a deal.

EDIT: The point that I would get upset is if this data was used to send me obtrusive advertising. More SPAM email, pop ups on my phone, etc.

Yeah, but who the fuck is on an unlimited data plan? That's pretty pricey and kind of a waste if you aren't playing video games and streaming movies 24/7

It was an interesting sequence of events. There is a story behind it, but I don't feel like typing it all out.

It's in the TOS that they can't use it? That's somewhat comforting.

    It's also subpoena-able, I believe.

(not that I have anything to hide)

Does this happen in certain areas or is it completely random? Sometimes the phone will switch from iMessage to SMS because you are not connected to the interent.

On that note, anyone with kids using the "Find My Friends" app?

Coming from BB Bold 9780. Very ready for upgrade. Trying to decide between Note II or iPhone 5. Phone will be bought without contract.
I don't have a tablet, would prefer to have one device to suit both needs, which is why i'm leaning towards the Note. Will be used as business and social device (will carry it in jeans/shorts/trousers/suits).
I have read many online comparisons. Appealing to the SF community for their $.02
*GF receives 8% off Apple products so price comp could come into play.

A friend has his car stolen and for weeks he got an itemized list of when the thief used EZ Pass on the turnpike. A little frustrating and the cops didn't care.

iPhone issue - for whatever reason if I select google as a search engine it defaults to google.ca. This seems to be new. Any thoughts?

Where are you? I had a similar issue like this once in Wisconsin because I was getting Canadian towers.

They do collect data to improve map data and technical issues relating to the cell reception. This came out a couple years ago and Apple immediately added a way to opt out of this. Keep in mind that a lot of "always on" GPS devices may also collect this type of data.

Is there a precedent of the raw GPS map data from users collected being subpoenaed in a court of law? I am unaware, but find that an interesting concept.

I am, and I think Mouse is too.

I don't play games on my phone but when we travel and my niece won't stop bugging Netflix is a game-changer. I do stream music a lot, not sure if it uses a lot of data though. I remember when AT&T reps would use the "oh you have email on your phone, that uses a lot of data" bs to get customers to upgrade their data plans.

    re: limo

come on brah, pm it to me then. I live vicariously through you. :satisfied:

    ....

iPio/Mouse, what the fawk. Can you answer my outlook question?!?!?

Thanks CalTex, if that is true, which to me does not sound too far off since I am on Wi-Fi all the time, then I hope my co-worker(s) will be more understanding and not be such an asshole next time.

I was seriously getting complaints because I was not using iMessage. W/E

This does not answer the question entirely directly, but alludes to GPS info being used by law enforcement:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/09/u...uests-to-aid-surveillance.html?pagewanted=all

and this would suggest that not only are they doing it, but they are doing it without warrants:

    http://www.aclu.org/blog/technology...lts-nationwide-government-cell-phone-tracking

Of course, as you allude, you'd have to pretty much just throw the damned thing away to really protect your "data," but I don't love making it easy.

I've never gone over 2GB od data in a given month. I have 4 GB for the same price with Verizon as I did 2 with AT&T I think. I can't imagine going over that.

Do you use the multiple color calendar option in outlook?

I have five different colors and I think I am overdoing it, since you guys are in the professional world I wanted to know what you guys use.

My outlook calendar colors/categories: FD, school, work, family, and personal.

I have to self for all 5 to be displayed and they show up in different colors on the calendar. This is on my laptop btw.

Mouse, you thinking of getting a retina display macbook?

I only use 1 calendar in my outlook.

I have a personal calendar as well, but as my wife can't get into my outlook, our "family" calendar is on yahoo.

The two calendars are different colors in my iPhone, but I think this is different than what you're talking about, which is multiple calendars within Outlook.

Both of my calendars sync wonderfully and seamlessly into my iPhone. It is one of the greatest utilities my iPhone brings me.
