Yeah, but porn is all Flash-based these days.

If I can't access Youporn on this, what's the point?

tube8 is better and iphone compatible

ipad fails totally as an ebook reader... e-ink is far superior to an lcd screen.

but i read physical books anyway so no big deal to me

I would be shocked to not see and LCD reader from Kindle/Amazon before year end.

Apple has put itself in a unique position among device makers in that the market (buyers, programmers etc) has to acquiesce to them, and not the other way around. if yuo hate them or think the products are crap, don't buy them I like my Iphone very much and am sure that I will like the IPad very much and use it more, if not exclusively, than my laptop.

Also, with this "no multitasking," does that mean I can't read and listen to music at the same time? That would suck.
You can. You can do this on the iPhone. What you can't do is run multiple third-party (non-Apple) applications at the same time.

Who bought the Kindle? Would that person pay $200-300 more to have a better eReader along with all the other functionality (watch TV/movies, surf the net/email etc)?

Once again, I have an iphone. I have a laptop. I will kop the IPad and I will not be the only one. Are you guys really not seeing the "big picture" and all the shit that this thing could be made to do? Wake up in the morning, on the way to work have every newspaper that you need a button touch away. Check all your emails and attachments. Surf styleforum, purchase from an affiliate. Watch last nights episode of 24. On the way home, read a book, program your DVR/Tivo, order dinner etc. All while commuting. Can you do that comfortably on your Blackberry? I'm not even touching on the possibilities for mobile business people like salesmen etc. This thing is useless, according to you guys, i guarantee you that Sony/Nokia/Amazon are not taking this sitting on their hands.

I agree. Considering how well the Kindle has sold, seems like this is easily a better alternative. It sounds perfect for traveling. The only thing that's surprising is it might cut into the market for the Macbook Air.

No Conne, empflix.com is the porno utopia. Screw xhamster.

Anyway, I hope Apple has great success with this. It will lead to laptops being that much cheaper when I'm in the market for a new one next year or year after.

As much as I hate the iPod, I'm still grateful for it because I enjoy the cheap knockoffs.

I compare the iPad to the 13" MacBook Pro rather than the iPhone. While it's significantly lighter, I find the 13" MBP to be perfectly comfortable on the subway or anywhere else you might take this iPad. The convenience is really only relevant as a dedicated reader and, of course, those already exist.

And why the hell does it not have a camera?!?! [IMG]

I would disagree with that since it isn't flash compatible, which means plenty of websites won't be viewable with it.

Since flash sucks and is unnessary 99.99999% of the time, I'd say that that is a plus. Maybe it will make webdesigners think better about loading up their websites with crap that impresses only themselves and pisses everyone else off.

not when you turn them into fully functioning macs. [IMG]
yes. Laptop is four-five times the weight and width and netbooks are weaksauce for mobile surfing and a bunch of other things.

Yawn. If this product didn't have the words "Apple" stamped on it, I doubt very many news outlets would even report on it.

The guy that wrote that wants to use a tablet to video conference with a front camera but is more interested in having a back camera so that he could use the device as an awkwardly large camera?? HDMI out? I should be pretty fricking upset that my financial calculator doesn't have an HDMI out too - wait, I'm rational and don't want that feature in my calculator. Adapters? Again why is this guy trying to make this device into something it's not? Why doesn't my pencil come with multiple built in adapters? I would want multi-tasking but I'm guessing that is an issue with battery life - not sure. That would be a legitimate feature people who would buy something like this would want.

y'all are failing to realize one thing:

this is apple. they're gonna rape the early adopters and then start rolling these "missing" features out on a 6 month refresh schedule. happy spending!

WTF would real people use this for?

They should make an iCube. Touchscreen on six sides. That would be sweet. And as totally unfunctional.

Still, no one has described even in a brief paragraph the difference between this and a net book.

Correct me if I'm wrong...but isn't this being touted as a laptop killer? I'd think USB ports would have to go without saying in that case.

They are also touting it as a media player...with a 4:3 aspect ratio, hah.

Sounds like the fanboys are trying to have it both ways. And to honestly expect webmasters the world over to conform to your/Apple's standards re: Flash, because you don't like it....beyond laughable.

I hope Google has something like this in the works too, completely open source, to totally punk Apple yet again.

Metro: Netbooks are gay and so are iPads IMO.

PS: Flash Video > Quicktime any damn day.

Flash doesn't require a bloated app install, it's a much smaller plugin. And if I did want high quality vids, I'd go for Xvid and completely bypass QTime anyway.
