those are fabulous pics. i've only been to Delhi and Agra, but this thread makes me want to see more of India.

my friend from Kashmir says that it's very dangerous for tourists there - is that true?

Obviously there are parts that are safer, but the country as a whole has been in stuck in conflict (India-Kashmir-Pakistan) for 50+ years. I think 2011? was the start of more conflict as someone was killed alongside the India-Kashmir border, but I may be misremembering.

I recently scanned negatives from my trip through India in 1997. Most of these pics are made with a Praktica BMS electronic. (35-70 mm, f 1:3.5-4.8). Some of them were made with a no name brand P&S I bought for 70 rupees (then $ 2,-) when the shutter button of the Praktica broke.

We (a German traveler and I) price checked about 7 'camel tour agencies'. All came down from 200 to 180, IIRC. And all promised the best lunch of all one day camel tours(!)

When lunch time arrived we came to a shaded area.

There was the wife of the guide mixing bread dough. A boy was sent out with a bucket and returned with it full of hard round cow dung boles. This was set on fire. In my innocense I assumed this would be used to cook on. Instead, after it became hot ashes, the similarely sized round bread dough boles were put in it. They tasted great by the way.

Meanwhile a second pot of chai was heated and then sifted with a cloth I just then recognised as torn off the sweated through, sun bleached pink saddle blacket from 'my' camel.
