I haven't been running lately since I tweaked my back four weeks ago. Today, I went for my first run since. 2.1 miles at just over a 10 minute mile pace. I'm still rather stiff, but it felt good to get out and stretch the legs.

^^ Coming back from an injury is always so sketchy. Feels so good to get back out there though.

9 miles. Taking it slow until I can work out some hamstring tightness. There will be foam rolling in my future.

7mi at mellow 9min pace, to further test tweaked calf. Felt alright. Will up pace a bit tomorrow, on short run.

2.5mi the past couple of days. Haven't been feeling the need to edge up, preferring to keep shorter but quicker distances this time around. Going to keep at daily 2.5ers until I get some form back.

9.5 miles on the trails last night. I can probably get that to 11.5 miles on Tuesday nights which would be a nice distance for a weekday.

    9.2 miles w/ intervals tonite.
Lots of injuries and tweaks out there. Too many miles, too much after downtime, other? Get healthy, fall racing season is coming up.

No fall racing for me other than a trail half marathon in October. A group is going to do a 40 mile hike/run on the Appalachian Trail the weekend of my 30th birthday so I may join in on that.

Can only speak for myself, but I think my calf strain is primarily due to too much too soon after my first marathon a bit over 2mos ago. I pushed through the wall at 20mi and didn't have any fuel in my system. I also failed to have an after-race recovery plan and found myself crushing beers in my damn 104deg jacuzzi, like a moron, writhin an hour of finishing.

Secondly, a few weeks ago I grew tired of Hokas, ran in several different shoes and attempted to alter my mid-foot strike to a forefoot one at certain times during my run. I thought it'd kind of give certain muscles a break if I could switch pace and foot strike during long runs/races, but think I bit off more than I could chew. These are all silly rookie mistakes, which I'll continue to learn from.

I'm training for a marathon on 11/7. I think taking that week off didn't really set me back much. Calf seems much better, but the faster I go, the more I can feel it. I'll stick with my program for now, keep icing it, and we'll see how it goes from here. I'm hopeful...

    FYI.
Injinji toe socks are 25% off 4 or more at Running Warehouse right now. I only wear them, but some people can't quite get used to them. If you like them but haven't tried the trail socks, get a pair and go for a long run. They are awesome w/ light weight trail shoes.

4 mile easy "trail" run this afternoon. I've definitely lost some of my fitness, but it feels really good to get out there.

I've decided to skip the 100 miler I am signed up for on October 31st, and focus on getting my functional fitness back. My new race goal for the fall will be the Xterra 21km World Championships Trail Run on Oahu (Hawaii) on December 7th. My focus between now and then will need to be on getting really strong in the hills.

Fortunately, we're moving to Boulder, CO in a couple of weeks, so lots of trail running will be easily accessible. [IMG]

Had enough of the Bay Area, Fueco? I always figured we'd bump into each other on the bay trail at some point, but I guess not! Good luck in Colorado.

Yeah, we've been talking about moving to a more family friendly place for a while. Having mountains closer is a huge bonus as well, and my wife misses having winter (she's from Alberta). She got a job offer from a great company, and I'm self-employed and mobile, so off we go! I'm sure I'll be back on a fairly regular basis for work and the occasional race.

Not a fan on Injinji socks. I have 2 pairs that I gave a try but one toe blew out after the second run.

Got in 6.2 miles today. We were going to run further but my buddy had some back issues. Going to just run longer tomorrow.
