How do you remove shoe trees?

    Aware this is an old thread, but didn't want to start a new one.

    The shoe trees I have are damaging the inner sole of my shoes in two ways.

    Firstly, they are scratching the inner sole under the vamp area when I insert them.

    Secondly, they are pulling up the back part of the inner sole when I remove them.

    Am I doing something wrong?
