Thought this would be fun. The outfit thus far MTM Hickey suit, RLPL blue french cuff shirt, RL tie, Hermes pocket square, Trafalgar alligator belt. The event It will be an interesting sartorial array. Some specific attendees are wearing black tie, because of their honored status, and everyone else will be in business attire. The event begins around 5:30 pm and will go through dinner and into the night. The question Lighter antiqued brown Grenson monkstraps or C&J darker brown wholecuts? ~ ZJPJ [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

I vote for the wholecuts, but you can't go wrong either way. Since some will be in black tie, the wholecuts seem to lean more to the formal.

Do you have black lace-ups? If you do, I'd go with those. If not, I'd go with the whole-cuts.

Whole cuts. I agree re: the somewhat added degree of formality. Also, a somewhat more legant look.

Hey, I have that exact same belt.

    Voting wholecuts.

Who will be the first dissenter, I wonder?

Do you have something by Prada?

No, I'm kidding. I vote for the wholecuts. Thanks for the pics of the Stowes -- you've strengthened my resolve to wait for the next Grenson shipment.

Both pairs of shoes look great, but I vote for the wholecuts given the event you've described.

    Regards,

Voted for the wholecuts by default (monkstraps don't work for me).

Any chance of getting more details (photo/description) on the Hermes square? I'm a fan of those things.

I have a red and a green. They are solid color with a bumble bee print. It's not noticeable unless you are close up. I really like them too.

The wholecuts, no doubt. Now, about that tie...

I love the pocket square as well.

Yes, the tie must be changed. How about a nice weaved 7-fold?

You surely have a pair of black oxfords.

And please, a blue tie and white linen pocket square.

probably the topic of a different thread, but this whole paisley thing really doesnt do it for me.

add my vote then to the whole cuts and to the 'change the tie' calls.

I agree -- change the tie and the pocket square. The brown shoes are already enough of a statement -- a blue tie in some interesting weave (if you have one) will look better in the evening.

That tie is horrible. Did I mention I hate paisleys already ?

The whole-cuts are terrific . Go for them.

None of these shoes unless you ar going to a meeting of farmers in the country.

But if you have no better, take the darker ones.

Forget this parrot tie (ridiculious) and this croco shiny belt (tacky).

Find a nice plain tie and a a pair of braces (or a elegant simple belt if you have no braces)
