Hi guys! its my first time posting here and I have an question. So I know that brown shoes go with grey suit but there is something that bothers me.. so I got a medium/light grey suit, white shirt and a black tie.. its the end of my high school so its something like a bal I am going to.. now its time to buy me a pair of shoes and I was trying black and brown ones.. i like the dark brown shoes I tried but people tell me that brown shoes dont go with that combo.. so should i go with the black ones or I can buy myself brown shoes and they are good with black tie and white shirt too.. sorry for my bad english btw. Thank you

It's probably because of the black tie/brown shoes combo. Wear another tie and you should be ok.

Ties are less expensive than shoes. If you like the brown shoes, buy them and get another tie. Pretty much any colour other than black will work.

Burn the black tie - it is not a funeral to which you are going.

Brown shoes are fine without that constraint.

I suspect this is a variation of the faux black tie "look". I have seen a lot of this nonsense lately; people going to formal or semi-formal events wearing a grey (or black) suit donning a shiny black silk necktie and thinking it's a stand-in for a dinner jacket.

Nope, I disagree. Shades of ble and gray are excellent with brown and stylish (especially dark brown or suede shoes) but a black tie does not.
