Unfortunately, I must be on my best behavior in the beginning. But life without alcohol is just fine. I'll just buy more ties.

The Scotch appreciation thread is great if you want to branch out. Bunch of guys who know and love to drink the stuff. There are certainly milder scotches that can help you ease into things. IIRC, lowlands - Glenkinchie, Auchentoshan - are usually good about being less abrasive than others but still bringing in some of the more scotch-like aspects to things.

Here is the hit list. It is the best resource I've ever found for getting new whisky ideas.

That's right... I forgot there is a whole lifestyle part of this website. I never wander over that way. Scotch thread sounds worth reading since I do like the occasional small glass of it, mostly in the colder weather months. Thanks very much for the suggestion.

    Good thing I stopped that.

Easily explained. They both impart stiffness to soft tissue.

I'm no Scotch expert, but have recently taken to Islay malts with a passion. Started with Laphroaig Quarter Cask, transitioned to their PX Cask (which is barrelled in old Pedro Jimenez sherry casks - lends a terrific sweetness to the finish. I'm a big fan of this one.)

Recently I was at a duty-free store with Laphroaig on my mind. In a hurry, I picked my poison, reached out, grabbed, paid and left. Only when I got home did I discover that I had in fact purchased Lagavulin 16yo. This is known as "serendipity".

Alas, the Lagavulin disappeared all too quickly. So tonight I'm sipping on Bowmore. Not the greatest Islay, but not bad either. It's all they had at the liquor shop, hidden among bottles of Johnnie Walker Lord Fauntleroy Limited Edition and other overpriced crap.

Lagavullin 16 is still one of my favourite whiskies, even after having been in Scotland for a while now and trying everything they have to offer (within reason).

Man, I miss the days of drinking half(?) A bottle of Islay Laphroaig 18 and waking up with liver pain and kidney pains. Gone are them days.

Now I just stick to green tea and camomile tea. Sigh

    the who?
I don't wine but when I do drink I go Ruffino Chianti Classico. Has a very smooth buttery after taste. I swoosh it around in my mouth and I gargle to get the full taste of the wine.
