How do Noodlers weigh in on French cuffs paired with SC's? Rule breaker/ deal breaker? Rule breaker/ rock it anyway?

Doesn't bug me in the slightest even if it is technically incoherent. I have come to prefer the feel of button cuffs, but that doesn't mean that I won't wear French cuff shirts with SCs from time to time.

Doesn't bother me much but I would hate to see french cuffs with tweed.

I don't, because FC shirts are generally more formal and the combination looks off to me. Other things I don't wear with SCs: white shirts (other than oxford button-downs), black shoes, balmoral shoes of any color. (Breaking the last rule today with a pair of RLPL Mackays in dark oak.) YMMV.

Cuffs are too formal for me. And I wear suits everyday.

Not a big deal to me. If I were rebuilding my shirt wardrobe from scratch, I'd have less French cuff shirts and more barrel cuff shirts. It's on the list of technically not quite right but not big enough of a deal to bother me things.

Generally agree with the bolded ones. I'll make an exception for a blazer and grey trousers with white shirts, though, as I regard it's formality to be between a suit and other odd jackets. I'll wear black shoes a bit more liberally; basically any time I am wearing grey trousers and a blue or grey / black and white jacket.

I used to be anti-black shoes with navy, but as of recently I really love the combo. Something about the sleek/city-ness of the navy and black really appeals to me. Great fit Gus! :slayer:

Also, Noodles, good to have you back. This thread has not had sufficient picnic attacks recently.

It's one of my very few pet peeves. I really really really dislike that.

    Thanks, sir.
I might have a picnic attack later today. The shirts I picked up from Korea may have collars that are too high. But I'll let you all be the judge of that.

What sort of tie pairings should I be looking at for this suit? Tried searching the Noodle archives but found nada.

As for shoes, I imagine everything from mid-brown to black would work. How about suede?

Last time I posted a fit with this suit I was wearing a blue/white striped shirt, blue/brown neat pattern tie, and brown suede shoes, black shoes there would have been bad. But why would I want to limit myself to wearing this suit in only one way? The beauty/fun for me is being able to wear it in an number of ways, some call for black shoes and other for brown. And had I not had black shoes, todays ensemble would have been impossible.

Thats why I strongly advocate for both black and brown shoes, it allows for maximum versatility in ones arsenal.

Almost any tie that you would wear with a gray suit. Solids, neats, dots, stripes... as long as the scale is varied appropriately.
