I know I want it but can I afford it with so many other pairs on order that I'll still have to pay the 2nd half of. Not to mention my bespoke pair that is in the works.

Don't forget that I may see patients for an attending but I still am not getting the salary of one. Haha.

This certainly has been a very busy year for most. In fact it's been so busy at the first part of the year it appears as most are still recovering from a hangover given the lower participation in some of these threads recently.

No he is serious. That's how he is. Purist to a fault I guess. It's fine, as long as you don't go spamming it on threads where you aren't even interested in buying, or even enjoying the shoes though, and just criticizing

I think son of a b... I mean saphir is right.

If GY shoes are as good as people say they are, why don't you ask G&G, Lobb, Fosters, Cleverley and the likes to goodyear welt your shoes when you can afford to go bespoke. That'll show them.

I think everyone who agrees with Saphir is missing the point. There is snobbery and there is stupidity. It is fair enough for one to say "I dont like GY welted shoes." Thats an opinion and no one can take away one's subjective viewpoint. But there is a major difference in saying "GY welted shoes are shit." Thats brainless mouth spew. Without doubt, handwelted is better than GY welted. Thats not the argument. The argument is when foolish people (who dont know anything with the exception of one or maybe two) try to cut down a 100 years of machine production shoemaking that has more than stood the test of time in reputation by producing millions and millions of shoes in those 100 years of which many people saw 20+ years in their shoes.

This is such a stupid argument it baffles me that people try to contradict this idea with sheer ignorance or stubborness to the facts. If there was such a strong evidence towards the inevitably of gem slip and failure something would have changed in the industry as positive reputations would not have stood for so long. Thats plain and simple.

And the upper will definitely go before the gemming does anyway so who really cares?

Maybe SoS's real point is about how far upmarket you can go using the same manufacturing technique, before the value proposition of GY shoes fails to add up. Everyone will draw that line in a different place. And that's OK.

Can we keep the GG thread clear of this gemming talk please?

This is not the place for it, and time and time again people insist on having this conversation on the GG thread. There are better threads to discuss such things, and even there this conversation has hit its apex.

Points taken, so let's move on...

It was certainly not my purpose to carry it on here. And you are right it has no place in this thread. It is just hard to witness people write silly remarks that are inaccurate with regards to good makers and not say anything. But I made my point above and will refrain now. Hoepfully people get back to admiring G&G as the thread is intended for.

    Good day to all

    Justin
