As a customer of Luciano Barbera for 20+ years, my personal opinion is that the one who most closely replicated Luciano Barbera's personal colors and style was Pliney. He was the one contestant who not only put together the four patterns but coordinated four colors with Barbera-like harmony and balance.

well cheers, coming from you that means a lot.

hard to decide who to go with on this, so many great 4 pattern fits in so many different sprezzs. Tirrailleur stands out to me for his sheer audacious peacockery- that works.
...wouldn't dream of wearing a single thing in his fit but I still dig it. okay, maybe the watch

congrats TTO on the comp and your outstanding fit .

Having now seen everyone, I'm more convinced.

Everyone else is wearing a lot of patterns, Timo is just wearing a cool, breezy summer fit.

+1!
As far as I'm concerned, his fit seems the only one to capture what I feel is the essence of Mr. Barbera's pattern matching style: how to make it look effortless, and flattering to one's physique.
The rest is just trying too hard for my taste.

So I did an informal analysis of the four patterns used by the contestants and notice a few things. I'd say the most popular shirt option was a thin stripe followed by a tight check. Most of the ties were either dotted or neat geometric. It was kind of hard to tell with the pocket squares being stuffed in pockets and all, but I'd say they were mostly paisleys. Lastly, the jackets were either glenplaid/windowpane or striped. There are several exceptions, but if there was a trend I'd say it was a striped shirt, dotted tie, paisley pocket square and plaid jacket. Maybe a four pattern formula for those of you who want to give it a try.

^^ Interesting. I fit that description almost exactly (gunclub rather than glen check, like a few others), but it's near enough.

that is how i did it.

i felt that in order to vary the scale, a thin striped shirt would work best. i figured i could use a variety of ties. i actually planned on using a neat, but i felt the dot i used worked better with all the items. once that was all set, there was not must left for the PS but a large paisley/flowery type option.

Almost always you'll have a smaller shirt pattern and a bigger jacket pattern.

I think that's an America / Italian perspective.

Over here, a lotta cats over like them some bold shirt patterns.

I'm not a fan of that look, natch. But it is a thing.
