get real, they don't look worse than a randomly picked pair of whiskey Aldens. Look fine to me. If they fit perfectly and you are satisfied, it's a decent buy. If you are going to secretly covet Aldens and end up buying Aldens in a year anyway, then it's not a good buy.
I agree with you, just looking at them you couldnt tell the difference. But the pair I recieved was in horrible shape. I dont know how QC didnt catch it. The fit however, was a dream [IMG]
Namor, i think you are happier with the Peal &Co cordovan boots... hope you sent these back
I am. I did ship the LWs back
They were close outs and size 12. I also bought them February 2010 before price increases.
wow, nice pickup. my size too [IMG]

Construction on these must be universally crappy if even the sample pics at that link have obvious flaws (look at the stitching around the toe, for instance).
haaa, you should read this entire thread if you havent already [IMG] The shoe fits great and at $300, hard to beat. I just kopped a pair from Zappos. My journey is now complete. whew!

You bought the same shoe again? Was it better this time? I kind of need a pair of gunboats...

I did. About 5 months ago I purchased this shoe for $460ish from BB and it was a piece of .... I returned it shortly thereafter and when I wanted to exhange it they were all sold out. Hopefully this pair works out better. But hey, "its only $300" [IMG] These would look awesome in that LA summer sun

return it without a receipt and try to get store credit for the full retail. i've done this before.

Right. On the way back, stop at a nice restaurant and leave without paying as a way to celebrate your good fortune at BB.

Acecow, I just placed the order so I cant speak to the quality of that particular pair. But Zappos offers free shipping, there and back so its hard to pass up on this offer

Very tempting, but I think I'll pass. I'm in the no purchase club this month. Let me know how it works out for you.

I just got a pair of these from Brooks Brothers. I didn't realize they were Duckie Brown until I received the box today. Did a search and found this thread; not sure whether I should keep them, but for the price....

Mine do not have the defects (stains) Namor cited; not the finest stitching, but not bad. Maybe the only minor detail could be that the bead around the lacings appears to be painted. And they do smell of lacquer. I'm airing them out in my office now.

These are definitely not RL Marlow quality, but still not bad. After contemplating the color, I've decided it's at least as good as the waxy natural Aldnen longwings, like those sold at J Crew.

Thoughts at the price I paid?

Namor, is it just the lighting, or are the shoes different shades? It appears like the front vamp and front brogueing are inverse shades, and then inverse again between the two shoes. Edit: Just the lighting... interesting effect, though.

A, you got a great price on a pair of Whiskey/Ravello LWs. I wear my pair regularly because I love how they fit. Before, I owned a Barrie lasted LW from Alden and they were blobby as hell. The last on which these are made is considerably sleeker which for me has resulted in no god awful cordovan rolls. For the price, you got a steal. I paid $300 for mine and would do it again.
