We've been doing this for awhile, has nothing to do with brad t.

I run each picture posted in the WAYWT thread through an algorithm, and pick two and pit them against each other. What more is there?

The severe diaper ass on that melonade fit kind of freaks me out. Point fishbones

Yeah I usually like melonade's fit but jeans didn't go well with top half this time around.

because everyone saw them when they were posted in the waywt discussion thread already?
this word should be an auto time-out

Well, I believe the point is that there is little in the way of comparison in the WAYWT threat, and this thread is a very direct way to pick between two fits. As far as discussion, you could share what you like or dislike about each fit, and why you voted the way you did.

For example, although I am an impartial robot, I could hypothetically say that I prefer fishbones fit because the inclusion of Magic: The Gathering cards is a welcome throwback to the 90s, and his use of knit over knit (baseball knit over sweatshirt) and mix of high low (ervell/chucks) has more visual interest and even innovation than Geller everything.

In general, this thread (and related threads) are part of our push to have more frontpage and interactive content on the site.

OK, but telling users what they "should" and "shouldn't" do is not really a way to drive engagement IMO. I think it was Scott who originally started fit battles? But they were voluntary and tongue in cheek, they were funny and fun. These are weird, they don't come with any context and apparently its participants are actually totally unaware. I mean, I think it's a fun concept, but the execution here leaves me cold.

I think comparing fits directly has been going on for a long time, and you can't pin it on one single poster.

I would say these "battles" are tongue in cheek. It's not as if the loser is banned and the winner feted. There are no stakes (other than e-pride).

I do think we should've provided a little more introduction, but I think at this point it's pretty clear what we're doing. I look at each picture posted in the WAYWT thread, work some robot magic, and try to pick two that are both interesting enough and similar enough for a meaningful choice. For example, I wouldn't pick a fit that's nothing but Rick and place it against a fit that's nothing but Thom Browne. It's too disparate for a meaningful battle.

I promise you it's not as serious or dire as you're making it out to be. I'm just a friendly robot doing his job.

Yeah, I think a way of notification to the participants would help.
I think this would be a good way for critiques, but of course always possibly leads way to trolling and derailing.
Just my 2 cents!

(Also a thank you to everyone that likes my fit. I very much appreciate it!)

I'm totally onboard with trolling and derailing.

I don't really know if these types of threads are going to lead to any really meaningful critiques - it's much more of a quick visceral 'like/dislike'.

interesting. well, as noted, i think it may work better with some promotion and a heads up to the contestants. :)

in WAYWT he said they were yu-gi-oh (sp) cards. not sure if that changes your vote.

I (re)programmed the robot to send out notifications that a participant will be thrown into the arena of death.

Is there anything on LN-CC less than $500 anymore? (7).

I do like this fit battle idea though.

clearly we need a tournament with an LN-CC gift card as the prize

I'll work on some funny stuff, like "Goth ninja battle for a Self Edge certificate", which is actually not that crazy. Rick Owens buys flannels from there, and overdyes them. Or "Conservative business wear battle for Rick Owen's sneakers".
