Hi Gents,

This is my first post, and I've spent some time looking around in the past here. I hope to be a regular member and introduce myself soon.

First things first, I have a wedding coming up in 2 weeks, so need to buy a suit ASAP.

I'd like to spend around $1750 tax in (Ontario, CAD) for the suit, shirt and tie. I'd be willing to go slightly over, but i'd like to stay in this range.

Shoes will also be purchased, but I will budget for this separately.

MTM not an option due to time. I'm a 40R OTR.

What stores, brands do you recommend? I want a modern fit, not totally slim but form fitting. Thoughts so far:

- Brooks Brothers (outlet as well?)
- Harry Rosen (outlet as well?)
- Walk around Yorkdale mall and see what they have (Armani and Boss stores...etc.)
- Any other stores in the Burlington, Oakville, Mississauga area?

I'm thinking Blue Suit (possibly lighter than navy), White shirt (with some interesting pattern woven in, or a check perhaps, no cuff links) Tie must be purple.

I appreciate your help.

@spiermackay is a member here and has a store in that area:

I'd avoid the pattern on the white shirt unless it's very simple. Like basic, narrow stripes in blue. Otherwise, solid white works well with weddings. Do you have any options with regards to what purple tie? If you do, this would probably be a good direction (assuming that you'd like to come in well under your budget. There are some very attractive possibilities otherwise)

Did not see you are in Ontario, Hope its not too late. Spier and Mackay is the best option if you do not mind to spend much less than your budget. I mean if I want to spend $1700, I am not going spend $600 and compromise on half canvas, lower quality (still good value). $500- 600 is more than enough to get a shirt a tie and a suit at S&M. However, if you want to spend $1700 and little bit over, I will not suggest S&M. They have bundle offer and their suits are better suited for people wear suits to work. With $1700, you can easily get a Samuelsohn, maybe Canali or Corneliani at Harry Rosen. I suggest you go to HR outlet at Mississauga because it is much cheaper than regular HR, but you may not find the colour/fit you want. Shirt, S&M is unbeatable, their main store is near HR outlet. Ties, HR outlet, still you may not be able to find the colour you want, but S&M does not offer really nice ties.

BTW, I hate BB. Seriously, I hate BB. Especially BB in Canada. It is the most overrated suits brand on this forum. In Canada, BB charges 2 1818 line suits for 2199. Same as Samuelsohn price but much lower quality. Avoid Armani and Boss also.

Overall, get Samuelsohn from HR outlet, if cannot find the colour/fit you want, go to DT Toronto, hudson bay flag store. They have solid colour Samuelsohn there. Ties, get whatever you like at HR Saks, but do not spend too much as the ties there does not worth the price. Shirt, S&M has the same quality but cheaper price than those HR carries.

Hi Gents,

Thanks for all the input. We ended up at BB as they had a 40% off sale. Milano suit fit best, but they did not have the size for me to try on. 40R was pushing it...ended up picking up 3 shirts for $220, which I should have in a week.

Jumped over to Yorkdale and hit a few stores. I was unimpressed with the cut and feel of the Hugo Boss suits, Armani M line was nice, but I didn't want to drop $2K and didn't see the value there.

Ended up in Harry Rosen's and tried on a few suits. Ended up in the Zegna Drop 8. Outside of a pants hem and sleeve length of one arm on the jacket, fit perfect. I think time permitting I could have found a better deal etc, but this was the one.

Material was not the softest, but I felt it would wear better over fall/winter and I'd get more use out of it. Anyways, budget blown as tax in the suit was $1700.

I'm looking at an black Allen Edmond's monk strap shoe. I'm hoping the white BB shirt I ordered will work for the wedding, although it is a spread and I wanted a cutaway collar.

I want to do a white simple pocket square as well.

1700 for main line Zegna is a okay deal. You may get a Isaia for the same price but that's definitely ok. For BB shirt, I suggest don't take 220 for 3 deal. Go for their luxury 2 ply shirt, because they regular shirts are easy to see through especially white ones. Again, spier and Mackay has cheaper 2ply shirt.

Yes, I went with the dobby material, which was thicker and had a nice finish to the material itself.

Realistically I'll likely pick up another shirt for the wedding, any suggestions. Seeing as how the budget is blown, I"d like to spend $300 all in for a shirt and tie.

Thoughts?

Ties are easy to buy online, Kent Wang is the best option if you do not want to wait a month. Shipping to Canada takes 5 business days. If you must wear a purple tie:
http://www.kentwang.com/ties/grenadine-purple.html
But I really suggest Glen Plaid, as it is traditionally for wedding.

Many websites suggest this tie from Kent, I got mine last Friday, it is beautiful.

I am pretty sure $219 for three shirts are not 2 ply shirts. BB 2 ply shirts as what they call luxury shirts, are $150 retail and never reduced to $70 per shirt. Last boxing day the price for 2 ply shirts was $90+. I know this because BB always has the same promotion.

If you wear a drop 8 suits, BB shirts is too baggy, even extra slim fit. I suggest go MTM. No time to wait? Try the slimmest fit from S&M, but may not fit you

Funny become I love Brooks Brothers and have quite a few of their Golden Fleece MTM suit! They are some the best suits I own and I will put them up against any of the companies you mentioned in your OP.

For a tie, I suggest used on eBay. Spend less on a quality tie and throw more money at the suit.

BB GF mtm are made by Martin Greenfield, RTW are made by South Wick, so totally different standard. Samuelsohn MTM is also better than RTW, but not that much difference like BB.

Kent Wang and Sam Hober ties are at least at Isaia level. Drake's ties are more expensive than theirs on ebay. Buy and Sell on this forum is even better chance than ebay.

Mr. Greenfield has not been making suits for Brooks Brothers for quite some time now. Maybe 3yrs now.
