Fastening the top button on a button-up?

Where I patrol, that's what the hipsters do. Generally untucked with a huge tail, to accentuate their disproportionate, ironic persona. As with many of these faux pas', a very slim physique will work wonders.

The, uh, in the article, Yannis Philippakis, is a decent example. It can also work for the overly-clinical preppy look, which is more my thing. I've been tempted at times, because it can definitely work, but fortunately realise it's just my mind being warped by fashion. Never really considered doing the 'Compton gangbanger first two buttons' look, which also had it's time here. As other posters have demonstrated, it's a staple of numerous other subcultures, too. In terms of long-lasting style, a button or more undone will look better 90% of the time.

God. So many lame boring people here. It's not impossible to make work. I don't know where all these rules that it should never be done without a tie or other crap comes from. Just because some people can't pull off anything but the safest and most standard of outfits, doesn't mean others can't. I don't do it often but do with a few outfits. It's more appropriate, interesting, stylish, and me than the other options. Do some people do it and look bad? Yea, sure. Some people can make it look good. Then again, some people look like **** in standard jeans, button up and laceups.

The intention was not homophobic. He merely seems a bit of a pillock.

Truth up. It can definitely work. I don't often have a calling for it, mind.

It's always looked a little contrived and stuffy to me. And personally I'd never do it because it doesn't feel very relaxed. I only button all the way to the top when wearing a tie.

Thanks. It's not a habit and it works best with fitted polos, of which I don't have many, but something
about the more relaxed construction seems to suit me better. But again, not a favourite look. The first and last time I tried it with a standard button-up, I immediately submitted it to the Worst WAYWRN MC thread

I like the look when it's worn with a suit, with a very plain shirt, no accessories, and plain shoes. I think that PinkPantser does this very well with the seersucker suit; largely because I often wear disturbingly similar summer outfits:

(disregard creases on trousers; I never seem to pack clothing too cleverly) It's a look that I find more classic than fashionable; probably because of its severe austerity. It's a very clean, non-fussy way of presenting oneself. It's an example of when a pocket square probably shouldn't be worn. However, I don't care for the 'air tie' with sports jackets, or in the manner hipsters presently wear them. It seems contrived either way, for different reasons. I also agree that it doesn't work if you have a stomach or pecs or man breasts.

It does kind of add that mod/hipster vibe if you've got them all buttoned up. Only really looks good with more formal shirts. Would defifitely not do it with western or casual plaid shirts.

It works for me but for some strange reason whenever i button the top button i am tempted to throw on a skinny tie. I just doesn't feel right without one.

Really robert? A bit too out there for you? Shocking.....

Ha ha. Yeah, well, I am pretty conservative, at least sartorially. (Is there something wrong with that?)

But it's not so much that it's "out there" as it is just "stuffy" and too formal. It reminds me of a Texas preacher look. Or how a kid will try to look dressed up in a formal restaurant because he doesn't have a tie.
