I've never been into Monkey Boots, but DM has their own version now called The Peter

What's the historical/subcultural story behind monkey boots? I don't think I've ever seen them before... another skin thing?

... oh and that platinum blond in the navy fred perry jumper [IMG]
she looks like she could be Gwenyth Paltrow's younger, infinitely better looking sister.

tbh, I don't know what the history behind monkey boots are. A lot of my friends in the 80s wore them as alternatives to Docs, but I always just wore Docs and never really liked monkey boots. I don't remember them being an exclusively skinhead thing, just a general "punk subculture" shoe

That blonde in the FP is sooo damned hot I took a triple-take on her.

I saw the YY by Docs in Maxfield I think... the price difference btwn. those and the mainline is a joke.

edit: The MIE's on the other hand I believe are an amazing deal.

I really like the red stitching on the 1461 shoe.

I'm such a tool that I will probably get those next spring, even at the over-inflated rip off Raf prices

    the other 2 are monstrosities

Wearing my Doc Martens spectators today, these bloody things are tough, at one point I think I wore them every day for a year and a half, and they still are comfortable. But lord, they have been beat up, I should be embarrassed to be seen in them. My 8-hole blacks that I had to send away for (and wait 6 months) in 1988 are long-disappeared, sadly. I had a skinhead/mod roommate (anti-racist) who had 14-hole oxbloods. There were lots of loverly little shag/fringe girls hanging around who wanted nothing to do with me! [IMG][IMG][IMG]

dammit. how can you turn down 35% off? I foresee some exel leather docs in my future... is the sizing on those the same as the mic docs?

    ^^ yea same sizing

I have the black 3 eyelet shoe and the "James" brown 8 eyelet boot (which is similar to a very authentic 60s skinhead boot referred to as the "astronaut" that was in dark brown), in the excel leather. both are really sweet, I like the non-yellow welt stitching on them.

I like and own a pair from steel-boots.com. (I have the 15 holes). Not docs, but they're mean stompy boots and rivet approved. Made and shipped from Slovakia.
