This is a difficult thing to resolve. Which serves as better proof of the personhood of pigs, Arnold from Green Acres or the pig from Charlotte's Web? We might need a poal.
I believe that Arnold was in the KKK.

bolded is irrelevant, has nothing to do with a pig's trust. There are many ways where trust can be seen from an animal's behavior: allowing physical contact, displaying forms of affection, not getting defensive during approach, not displaying aggressiveness or fear. These are all fairly simple observations, which is why I asked if you've ever interacted with an animal. Deliberately betrayed? How else would you describe willingly shooting an animal in the head for no necessary reason? It surely wasn't an accident. The farmers all cried after, like it said in the article. They knew what they were doing was wrong. Just another example of how people can be a part of actions that they know are wrong, yet still do them. They didn't cry after for no reason, sympathy or compassion for the innocent can almost be considered as engraved in the psyche of most.

I remember watching Charlotte's Web as a kid and that pig seemed pretty smart.
Not really, that was a damn smart spider and rat. Pig did nothing.
    what about Babe?!?!
Probably ended up on a plate the moment he became useless

As people, you should be ashamed to participate in this thread. Unless you're not really people.

Dolphins feel shame and are therefore people.

BTW, personhood as a philosophical concept is most likely derived from personhood as a category in Roman law.

This thread is producing intellectual starvation. I am going to re-read Charlotte's Web.

    SAVE THE SEALS

Thousands of young seals have their heads bashed to death in Canada EVERY YEAR.

Much progress has been made over the years, but we are closer than ever to ending the seal hunt FOR GOOD. Be active and spread the word. Knowledge is power in the animal rights movement!

If you did that, SFers would be pining for the now-defunct seal-fur waistcoat:

Question. Is all of this an issue principally because these animals are cute? What if they were ugly and disgusting?

Who speaks for the cockroach, for example. Or the rat? Every year ugly commercial exterminators like Orkin, Terminix and Truly Nolen destroy untold millions of cockroaches, silverfish, ants, mice, rats and other household wildlife. Typically, these animals are destroyed merely for sport or for the convenience of the homeowner. No use is even made of their remains. They are not used for food or clothing, but their helpless bodies simply discarded on the whims of their murderers.

Stop this senseless murder. Roaches are one of earth's most ancient lifeforms. They were here before we were, yet we kill them as if they were meaningless. Roaches are people too.

    Stop the madness.

Not every animal in the animal kingdom is equivalent, or else humans and insects would be on the same level.

What is "cute" by the way and what qualifies as cute?

    Rats are saved too

    FUR TRADE, DEATH TRADE

China supplies over half of America's fur, much of it is mislabeled when it is really cat or dog fur. The animals undergo unimaginable suffering, including being skinned alive.

Over two million dogs and cats are killed every year for their fur.

You can help by not supporting the industry by avoiding fur products. Spread awareness of the issue and urge action to be taken. Humans are their biggest threat, but people are their only hope.
