If the manager found the discounted price on line before he rang the Corporate Division, well then that should be adequate proof that an offer was in place and that you had already accepted that offer. In fact, the manager was authorized to confirm the sale on behalf of RL and so he should be sufficient confirmation that a sale was already in place.

The effect of their online offer and your acceptance is a contractual obligation to deliver on the original terms offered. The argument that their IT staff screwed up is not convincing. If my sales staff offer to sell items to the public by mistake, I remain obliged to meet my company's obligations regardless. My remedy is to educate my staff properly, it is not my remedy to breach my contractual obligations.

It is one thing for a consumer to be reasonable with retailers, it is quite another to expect consumers to allow breach of contract in circumstances where the retailers would never tolerate a breach had the "shoe been on the other foot" - pun not intended.

Thanks for the image. I've forwarded this and a screen shot of the sale prices to RL so we'll see what happens. I did have a code and pre-sale link.

Wow, my Marlow WT's finally arrived.. stellar shoe. They're noticably better than my Aldens in terms of finish and detailing. Also, it's a very hefty shoe!

I noticed that it fits TTS (if not a bit snug!).. I'm quite glad I didn't size down .5 like some of the others. :slayer:

Has anyone else had to size down an additional 1/2 for the tassel.. My PTB's, Wing's, and Penny are all US 9 (sizing down 1/2 as norm on this line). Tried on the 9 in the Tassel and had way too much heel slip/room. The 8 1/2 is definitely snug, however my experience is that the Cordovan will give over the years so you want a loafer sorta tight at the beginning. Any thought's? BTW I am thin, not wide footed. The Penny was really tight at the onset but now really pleased I didn't size up as they are a nice fit, not sloppy.

Mine arrived today as well, together with a pair of Macon boots.

Wow! This is my third pair of Marlows in now. As a size 10EE I ordered a size 9.5, my second pair in this size, and they are really a tight fit at first, but after the third wear they wear and feel like a solid pair of silk socks.

The size 10 I wore at first was a great fit in the beginning, but it became loose and a little uncomfortable if you don't like a loose fitting shoe.

The Macon is a perfect fit in a 10, after the second or third wear.

Better than Alden? You bet! the difference is obvious from the first day you see them and definitely from the first day you wear them.

I don't know that Marlows are worth $850 though. Last year I bought a pair of EG Alderleys in #8 cordovan - stunning pair of boots for work and casual wear, and they cost me just over $1,000.00.

My pair of EG Sandringham in brandy cordovan are more comfortable than the Marlows, which is not easy because the Marlows are a good comfortable shoe, but the Sandringham are a much more commanding shoe, they make a stronger statement than the Marlows, and they can be worn to almost any occassion. They also cost around the $1000.00 if you buy them through the right retailers in England and they are definitely worth the extra $150.00.

Marlows at the sale price are perfectly good buying, but at $850? I would rather shell out the small difference for a pair of EG.

How much stretching wise is there in terms of width. Got home last night and tried them on quickly without lacing. Size 10 was too tight all over, 10.5 length would be better but it's pretty tight in the middle of my foot as well as my little toes, 11D is better but I think there will be a little heel slip (may go away if laced) and length is a bit long. 10.5 also has white cordovan spots, is this normal on C&J shell

White dust / powder on new cordovan is normal, actually, a good sign. Just brush them off, or else wipe them off with a damp cloth.

Size wise, yes, I like a tight fitting shoe so my Marlows are always a tight fit around the arch and instep when new and breaking in, but my toes do not collide with the front, sounds like they are a little small for you if your toes collide with the front of the shoe.

Sounds like the length is too short. I hope you don't have the wrong size.

With Cordovan I know i am going to struggle, because calf leather hide is softer and always a slightly better fit from first wear. Cordovan is a lot tougher when new and so it will feel a lot more demanding to break in. Difficult to tell in your case unless we get a better idea of what size you wear in other shoes and lasts.

how close is your big toe to the front of the shoe?

What size do you normally wear in other shoes?

yeah i had to do this. im a 9 brannock. i took 8.5 lindricks and 8.5 penny and 8.5 tassels. i thought they were all fine but my tassels have heel slip. tried on 8 today and these are tight but fit better and will stretch. so hope that helps you.

Thanks for the confirmation, appreciate the time. I think b/c the toe box is elongated in this model; as the width stretches, you'll slide down a bit further. I just remember having a couple pairs of Bro Bro Cordovan Tassels throughout the years, and as per Alden I'd size down 1/2 ... but after several years I always wished I'd gone down one more 1/2 size as you could almost kick them off from the stretching, not true though for the Alden Brooks Cordovan Penny, still 1/2 down. Just want to get it right this time around. 9 on the whole Marlow line sans the tassel , go down one full size.

Went down a 1/2 size from typical and these fit much better. Quite a nice shoe. Stylistically they are right up my alley.

She didn't get to finish her sentence - she meant to say: "I thought I saw them at Aldo's..... on the feet of an unspeakably debonair man who walked in by accident"

    Feeling better now? [IMG]

Cross post from Alden thread: Some photos showing the different colors in comparison to the C&J brown (ravello, color 4, black). Width be damned, I have to keep them
