Hmmm I'd say they were ready for the bin myself. Will be interesting to see what they are bid up to.

Here's a pair of well-used Vass wingtips in black, still in good condition, in a US9.5:

Nice looking black Church's longwings in 10.5D. $85 BIN (!!!!!)
The only sketchy part to me is Royal Tweed = Church's. Anyone know for sure?

Royal Tweed are Church's. Those may be corrected grain though. I can't tell from the pic, but they have made them out of CG.

Kinda sorta. Some say Royal Tweeds were made by Church's, others by Cheaney for Church's. The nail patterns differ from the regular Church's 'Custom Grade' shoes. They are also almost certainly CG.

I'm not certain that they're CG. I've owned (past tense) a few pair. They were decent quality, and all the ones I owned were decent, full grain leather.

I was referring (on rereading my post, rather poorly I must admit) to the specific pair linked in the eBay auction, not all Royal Tweeds in general. I've seen other auctions for exactly the same model in the same colour before - in the ones that have better photos, it is evident that the leather is CG.

Could it be that bookbinder stuff they use? If so, that is used on Custom Grade stuff, and is quite nice and durable.

They are made by Cheaney which is a division of Church's and they are corrected grain. Cheaney has various levels of quality but this RT premium grade is probably on par with custom grade Church's. Royal Tweed is the only part of Church's that used real shell cordovan (Horween) and I'm 99% sure just in burgundy. The current Church's "krup" is sourced from somewhere else and doesn't appear to be near as good as Horween shell.
