The bar is too gimmicky in my book. The day bed on the other hand is delicious. Who's done it?

Actually, it is, and will continue to be produced by Simon, which was acquired in 2013 by Cassina's parent company, Poltrona Frau Group ( which owns Cappellini as well).

Simon has produced some of my favourite designs, especially their Ultramobile and Ultrarazionale collections.

The first link the dealer is in France, but yeah, insane prices. Many of them will deal with you over the phone or in person for much better pricing. I would avoid anything that isn't clearly what it represents itself to be or has a significant provenance to back up the asking prices.

The question in the end is, do these things sell at these prices? And if they do, who buys them?

I'm sure it takes a while to turn over a lot of this stuff, but people do buy it. Budgets vary...

Auction prices can be ridiculous too.
1st Dibs allows you to "buy it now".

I like it as a reference source. It's a bit of an enigma.

Speaking of 1st Dibs, this coffee table showed up this week...Faye Toogood’s Element Table in blue resin. No price listed, but Phillips de Pury was asking $80,000 for one a couple of years ago.

Actually, quite cool table. Morrison sale at Cappellini. 20% off his pieces. I am likely to grab the Thinking Man's chair. Love (most) of his work.

80k for a hunk of plastic certainly seems reasonable.

I don't know which I'd rather have....the resin version or the one with a brass cylinder, stone cube, and a sycamore sphere. It falls into that batshit crazy area of art mixed with a functional item. I don't know if I would want to have a conversation with someone who bought this because we are clearly on two different levels...

If it requires me to reinforce the floor, I do not want it.
