Seeking a nice, classic cocktail shaker either in silver plate or in pewter. (I don't want a stainless steel or glass shaker). What are the best ones under $200?

Well, classic can mean a lot of things. I suppose that you want a Cobbler style shaker, that is, where the top contains an integral stainer and is made from the same material as the bottom? That is not the style I prefer for serious work, but hey, the Japanese love cobblers. Few are really made today out of silver (I'd skip pewter given the acids content of most cocktails). Honestly, Ralph Lauren probably makes the most beautiful contemporary shakers that are silver plate, and 200 is rot about in their sweet spot. RL has one called the Knightsbridge, I think, which reminds me of the famous Desny set from the 30s. On the budget end, Sur Le Table has some silver plate shakers for less than fifty bucks.

Vintage, the suggestion for Chistophle is not bad, though I would not have chosen that particular example. I have a soft spot for WMF shakers, particularly various twisted Bauhaus esque shakers that they made.
