He suffered from Alzheimer's Disease. It is usually not the disease that kills the person but one of a host of rather nasty sequelae such as aspiration pneumonia, dehydration, pressure ulcers, etc.

Though they didn't say what he died from, Mr. Heston was in the final stages of Alzheimer's disease.

Nope. That's why I said what I said in my first post in this thread. He showed great dignity in how he publicly dealt with the disease.

I had lunch with him once about 10 years ago. Real nice guy, very unassuming for all his fame. (There were other men in the small lunch party, including the NRA's Wayne La Pierre, but Heston was sitting directly across the table from me.)
