    Could the S65 engine in the E92 M3 make it a classic in the years to come?

    I don't see BMW ever putting in another V8 in an M3/M4, unless they somehow develop some amazingly fuel-efficient V8s.. but even then, the smaller turbocharged engine variants of the future should still theoretically blow any 'fuel efficient' V8 out of the water in terms of efficiency.

    Also, heard rumors of BMW developing an electric-powered turbocharger.. should be interesting.

    There's a video on youtube with a Daytona b8 rs4 avant at a cars and coffee meet, I haven't seen on the flesh yet, but it seems that Audi haven't don't a lot to promote it, so not a lot of people know of it.



    I don't think they are bbs's as they look concave, they are most likely some sort of botique brand.

    the face is too detailed to be a boutique wheel. The boutique brands have flatter faces than Kim Jong Un



    I thought that initially, maybe Equip M1 or Rezax, but the spokes are more attractive and I don't see any rivets.... they must be hidden behind the face

    E46 was designed by Eric Goplen under Bangle. The E46 M3 is a nice car but there are too many of them and it has no real racing legacy unlike the E30. But I think it is in the same niche as something like a 986 Boxster, which is a nice, reliable car that is pretty cheap to own and fun to drive.

    I qualified my praise of the S54. The S65 only needs one qualification in my opinion: The best engine ever fitted to a <$100k production car. However, I don't think the E9x M3s will be "classics" for the same reason that A Y mentioned about about the E46s.

    I am really curious what BMW will do for the F3x/8x M3/4s. I'm amazed that they've hidden it thus far. Beyond a straight 6 with direct injection and turbos, I'm not sure. If they use an electric motor to spool up one of the two turbos (I can only imagine it'll be a series turbo configuration), then it'd be already pretty unique. I think they'll also try to run as much as they can off electricity including all the pumps.

    True. It probably won't reach the same level as the E46 in its cult classic status, but I definitely think it'll be a highly sought-after car 10-20 years from now. I've been reading that the E9x M3 has been very reliable to date which should also boost its desirability in the years to come.

    In terms of the F3/8X M3/4s, I've read rumors that it'll have a TRI-turbo setup.. I don't quite understand how or why you'd need three turbos, unless they're all three different sizes for the low/mid/high RPM ranges, but an electrically-spooled turbo would probably suffice in addressing the low/mid RPM ranges. Two turbos make sense to me.

    We shall see!

    Chevy LS of various flavors are better engines than the S65, IMO.

    BTW, to clarify, a car doesn't need a racing legacy to be a classic, but if that's in its origins (as the E30 M3 was homologated so they could race it), then racing legacy is essential to its status. Even worse, the E92 M3s being raced in ALMS are just tube-frame cars with skins that look like the road car --- it's like a more evolved NASCAR. I think beyond a couple of plastic pieces on the dashboard, it shares nothing with the street car. Compare this to Porsche's 911 race cars which are built on the same line as the road-going 911s, and use much of the same platform as the road car.

    I'd hope no one is disillusioned enough about the E9x M3 to think it has a racing pedigree - the DTM success is really all it has.

    ...but the LS engines? Come on. They're archaic brutes.

    I'd take an LS engine over any BMW any day. More reliable, light weight, etc.

    The DTM car is also a tube frame, and not related to the road car. But it is a pretty damned good result, winning the championship their first year back. There's an interesting interview with Joey Hand in the latest Roundel, and he says that the DTM is basically a downforce car, and is driven very differently than the ALMS GT M3.

    Chevy LS is also more fuel efficient. :slayer:

    Saw it last night pretty interesting, I loved the fact the young guy with the Aventador, 911 GT3 with 1300hp and a X-bow, tried to make it look like he had saved up and the money came from his engineering job and not his families oil money and his government check. :rolleyes:

    Chatted up a guy today with a Nissan GTR; first time I've been up close. Wow, that car is a masterpiece. I was really impressed with it. I was too shy to ask him to spin me around the block but I sure wanted to.
