Definitely purple. Purple is the color a king sleeps on.

If you're inclined to be a slob, go with the middle tones. It will hide the dirt. Avoid the bright whites and the darks, "Stuff" shows.

Bright, bright, white in 100% cotton. (Buy the sheets one size up from the package i.e. queen bed = king size sheet set). White looks clean and inviting.
Make them a 1000 tpi from Europe if you want to really impress.

Summer and then winter weight down comforter (STP has some great German made comforters from time to time) housed in a pure silk cover.

Pillows should be 100% down (no feathers) and housed in a high thread count zippered pillow cover. (Keep a couple of high quality fiber filled pillows for the allergy prone)

    Classic and a sure winner.

The rule is white for blondes and redheads, and red/otherwise for brunettes. The raven-haired will go with anything.
