In the right mood and place, nice company et al, I have a bad habit of not looking at the bill(s) until I get my month end statement.

I don't think I've ever looked at the total of a credit card chit at the point of purchase when the amount is tallied for signing. I'm sure some folks find this sloppy, scary or crazy.

Your analogy is not analogous. The objective of high end denim is based on simply selecting the best fabric for the application, not on making the most ungapatched pair. This burger Rossini is more analogous to a pair of jeans with "Sexy Beast" written in Swarovski crystals on the posterior. Perhaps, that is, as they say, how you roll. I do not know.

And I always thought that denim was originally a "blue collar" fabric invented by the French (popularized by Levi Strauss) in the late 19th century. A burger - created to extend and add more edible volume for the blue collar or economy minded populi - both of extremely humble origins. I don't think there's such a thing as "high end denim". By it's very definition, it's fibre and construction will not warrant it to be an exotic or expensive textile. "Value added" is another definition, such as your creation above. And mine. Therein lies my analogy.

I did not! I am not much of a drinker--I have about ten a year--so the Petrus would be lost on me.

I read that the Petrus is served in fancy stemware that you can take with you.

At the restaurant, the waiter referred to the combination as the Fleurburger 5000. It's one thing to eat a $100 hamburger, but it's another entirely to get the combo meal for an extra $4,900!

Another great burger here in Jersey is the "Fat Cat" from the grease trucks at Rutgers. Two patties, lettuce, tomato, mayo, ketchup cheese, and fries in a sub roll.

Yeah agreed... the best (least bad) I have found are in Black & Blue near Borough Market or at the bottom of Marylebone High Street.

Where are the best you've found - I'm a fan of a decent burger and Gourmet Burger Kitchen doesn't cut it

for the l.a. residents:

"the counter" is great. i used to live a few blocks from it and i highly recommend it, though quevola crossing the entire city to eat there may be a stretch.

someone said "the apple pan" is like "in n out", and that's not true. it's almost exactly like "johnnie rockets", but better. in fact, i think "johnnie rockets" was based on apple pan. (the burgers, not the decor.)

i've passed by "father's office" a couple of times but haven't actually been inside. the line is so long out the door we just end up driving by and going somewhere else.

GQ did a feature on best burgers in america a few years ago with this place in Hollywood, FL (near ft. lauderdale) called Le Tub having the #1 burger in america. I've eaten there twice. The atmosphere, burgers, fries and ambiance of the place is great. Just a small, mostly covered, dirty little burger/seafood place right on an inlet. Gets really crowded though since the GQ article.
