I didn't see it posted (if it was my apologies) but can you pass on the maker's name so I can keep an eye out for future offerings?

    Thank you!!

I agree that MTOs from established UK makers are getting very pricy, with increase in price of 5% a year or even more. At the same time, many Continental European makers (like Bonafè) have just raised their prices once in 4-5 years. As long as the UK makers still sees an increase in demand they will of course raise prices even more. At the price point many higher end English makers are offering shoes now, and with very long lead times, you can understand the appeal to order from makers like Vass, Saint Crispin's etc where you can get the shoes in a reasonable time space.

Although Carlos Santos is not offering MTO we are looking at extending their Patina Service to some new styles, exclusive to Skoaktiebolaget. And given the price point it has been quite easy to organise GMTOs.

While we're on the topic of economy...I think that these Carmina's from Steve at GF are a nice option at a reasonable price.

It's not a deal-breaker for me but it does bug me and I will mention it, because it shows a lack of attention to detail and/or skimpiness. The more expensive the shoes, the less forgivable it is. Carlos Santos is of course at the cheaper end of the market. I started using ex German Army boot bags for my Bonafe, Cliff Roberts boots et al. but found 100% cotton pillowcases to be a very cheap and adequate substitute.

Thank you Rodger! I've been trying to work on the whole 'mirror toe' bit.

How should a balmoral boot shaft fit? I have some pairs where it is a snug fit which I prefer and I have one pair where the fit is loose (I can fit a thumb in the shaft easily white its fully laced).

What is your experience with bal boots?

    Alfred Sargent: Too tight?

    Yanko: Too loose?

Meermin (Left one): Just right? - Yanko again on the right

Just going by looks the Alfred Sargent is too tight the outline of your big toe is visible. The Yanko is harder to tell I would say it is more likely than not too loose seeing how the shaft is pretty much completely closed. Of the three the Meermin appears to be the best fit based on the pictures but it is hard to say for certain without seeing them in person.

Ideally your toes should be where the toe box starts to drop off and there should be some give to the leather when you press the two widest points of the boots in the forefoot, i.e., you should not feel the bone of your foot first when doing that. Hope that makes sense.

Natural calf lining, single leather sole, soft fabric pull loop, last 74945

    Etrusco calf, marasca suede

The beautifully rich Etrusco calf is one of my favourites. It was love at first sight, and I had to have some more.
The marasca (cherry?) suede complements it well.

Can anyone spot the difference between the two soles?

Could you please tell me what last are those Yanko balboots? I'm looking at a pair on last 915. How do they fit compared to Carmina Simpson, for example?

What is your experience quality wise? They look amazing!

I finally did - six years later! The Natural Shoe Store only has a few pairs of the Grenson Balmoral left now.

Thanks(?) to this thread, a couple of days ago I exited the Vass store even poorer than when I went in. Looking forward to mid-May.
