Well can't guarantee it but they sent out an email the other day saying they were participating in it and it would be good..looking at the GQ site the promo code certainly seems to indicate its for the 2014 shopping night. Last year they had 20% off so 30% seems possible.

    That was quite deep.

I'm struggling to comprehend your abstract thinking.

Roughly translated it means that as we are part of a stratified society our ability to consume determines our position in the social pecking order eg Bespoke has more cultural capital and symbolic power than OTR.

Our socio economic upbringing conditions us to purchase particular brands and commodities which are reflective of our social position to ensure we maintain our position in the social habitus that we belong too.

He's saying that the 'old money' 'new money' distinction reveals itself more in patterns of spending than size of income alone.

Take all the Clive Palmer/Bob Katter types who bought coal and cattle stocks during the 90s and made it big. They blow their money on dinosaur parks and titanic replicas.

Old money is more subtle - think of the banker types who might have a colonial house at Potts Point and talk with a bowl of fruit in their mouth and are generally regarded as 'tasteful'.

Post Thatcher/Reagan though the delineation is less obvious.

Went out with a girl who went to Ascham who was pretty trashy. Solid cans though.

Not gonna lie, saw this on TV this morning and unconsciously (maybe) wore same. Except APC dry denim not...whatever that is. And pocket square. But otherwise I'm basically the Duke of Cambridge right?

should have been me. Even if it wasn't. I know people like it and to be fair it isn't the biggest sartorial sin, but I'm not a fan.

I'm on the small tablet so can't write much, (OK no smartarse remarks down the back , oli I'm lookin at you) but I like Furman and Andrew Rogers comments. Reading Toby Young's , How to Lose Friends etc. Its great to see his descriptions of how heireachies and boundaries and different in USA and UK. At least in magazines etc workplaces. Contrary to expectations, much more rigid in USA than Uk.

Anyway Ms fxh is catching up with latest bootleg GoT. Me listening to Faures Requiem and sipping Highland Single Malt 18 years old and reading and looking at this forum from time to time.

In other news its appears that the neighbours cat has been sneaking under the house and sleeping in the heating ducts and squishing them so that half the house has no heating g at all. Luckily the TV is up the Siberia end and the stereo and good speakers down the, now, over toasty end. So tomorrow its crawling under house and fixing ducting on back, then cooking for big extended family get together on Saturday. Looks like wind and rain,so no BBQ, curry instead from that great book firman recommended. For 20 or so. Then Sunday bunnings to board up under house.

It's liked because it's a relevant look to Australian's working class background, it's just rarely done well. Let's face it, wearing trousers out to dinner or for drinks is generally not socially acceptable here, bar SF meet ups of course. Now I live in the country these days so I'm probably a bit biased, but outside of work attire, if I turned up to dinner/beers with my mates in a pair of flannels I'd get some funny looks. I could get away with chinos or moleskins at best.

My final word is that like anything this stuff is all about context for the environment your in. I wouldn't wear a 3 pce to the Royal Hotel in Queanbeyan (my local) but on the other hand I wouldn't wear RM's and moleskins to Fratelli Paradiso either. But I might wear denim to both....
