Thanks! I've splurged on those Herring Drakes. I've been wringing my hands over those shoes for months, but that discount has tipped me over.

Yep nice shoes, out of my size though. Oh well nice when external forces take the decision making out of your hand one way or the other

Does anyone know the difference in quality between the Alfred Sargent for Herring lines (eg Drakes) and the Alfred Sargetn Exclusive line (eg Moore)?

Code applied : 20% off full-price for seconds request

this is what I got after the code is applied, so 20% only for 2nds?

They are the same quality, as indicated by the price point.

Quote:I found that rather confusing too. But it gave me the 20% discount on the Drakes.

That's a decent discount for an AS made shoe...

I'm not sure whether you can so crudely judge the quality of a shoe based solely on its price.

Comparing three shoe makers that all make very similar cap toe oxfords, the following presents itself in AUD:

    - Crockett and Jones Audley: $663. (Not including shipping).
    - Alfred Sargent Armfield: $563. (Including shipping, not including 20% off).
    - Carmina 0732 Robert: $405. (Not including shipping).

According to this forum, the Carmina is a better looking and better made shoe (all aspects of quality) than Crockett and Jones, yet it is roughly $200 cheaper.

Hey MS good to have you back.

Wurger was also (im quite sure) comparing them to his many other AS shoes.
Also FWIW these Drakes are better than my Carmina Simpsons ;)

Straight from the Carmina website, I suspect.

I don't know how much they charge for shipping to Oz, but you can get calf-leather shoes from the Carmina website for 325 Euro, and they deduct (I think) 20% in VAT from that price and then add 40 Euro for shipping.

    325 x 80% + 40 = 300

300 Euro is (given the increasingly poor exchange rate) about AUD $440 nowadays, so not too far away from MS's price.

Edit - Here's a link to the Carmina online store: http://www.carmina.telemaco.es/familia.asp?idfamilia=11986476

I don't think that's what the forum says. Isn't it generally this way:

    Hand Grade C&J (e.g. Audley) > Carmina > Bench Grade C&J (e.g. Hallam).

The Bench Grade C&J's are about $550 $460 (forgot to take off VAT).

I can't comment on the quality of the Carmina's vs C&J. However, I can say that some might prefer the C&J lasts relative to the Carmina, which might justify the price increase.
Also, if you are going to keep the shoes for years, some might prefer that the C&J are English made.

Posts around the net seem to indicate that the Alfred Sargent HG aren't quite up to the level of C&J HG.
