They appear to evoke different emotions with some, but they shouldn't.

One, positive thing in Salvatore Ambrosi's favour is that he's not as bad as Drew Keith of ToJ. You might have to wait the better part of a year or more for your pents, but at least you'll get them.

Men have always indulged artists. Grown men having sex with teenagers and bragging about it. Giving interviews completely smahed. Never arriving on time. Using foul language in public. None of these would be tolerated from businessmen, politicians, or professionals. But they are common habits of writers, painters, and rock stars.

While Ambrosi's field is fairly exotic art of pantalone making, he indeed appears to be the rock star of his genre.

Clearly, you haven't spent much time in the "Cool furniture, design objects and desiderata" thread!

Just to throw a spanner in the works on the nice guy debate...

Ambrosi did a favour for me, he connected me with someone that I had been trying to contact for a while but they never answered my emails etc..

Ambrosi had absolutely nothing to gain from answering my messages and connecting me with this other person. I didn't pay him, I didn't give him anything for free, I don't buy trousers from him, he has no idea who I am and I'm not an influential person in the #menswear world.

Everyone I have spoken to says he's a really nice guy, my personal experience is the same.

Reading some of the posts in this thread reminds me why I lurk on this forum less and less. Why so much whining from people who have never ordered from Ambrosi?

I have nearly a dozen pairs via The Armoury in HK. If you like the southern Italian style they are terrific. All my trousers have arrived on schedule and fit well; when I have needed alterations (letting out, inevitably) there has been a roll of the eyes but the work has been carried out promptly and without complaint.

I am quite aware I am paying more for Ambrosi in HK than if I ordered locally. But it seems mad to travel to Naples to save a few bucks. I do, however, go to London regularly and (like lots of others) I also order things on Savile Row. Note to file: big SR houses all seem to charge 20-30% more than Ambrosi for trousers. This is the comparison, not Ambrosi vs MTM or a chop house.

The Internet is an amazing tool. Three days after my previous post, two trousers were shipped to me via DHL overnight express.

In June 2014 (14 months ago), I ordered and paid in full for a gray pair from the Crispaire book, and a blue pair from the Classic Flannel book, which was to match an MTO Ring Jacket order (shout-out to The Armoury)...

I received the gray Crispaire pair and a brown pair from an October 2014 order instead. What happened to the blue flannel trousers?

Anyone know where I can buy the flannel and have these copied locally, including the S curve in the leg? You can PM me if you prefer.

    Thanks

You can visit Ed at Panta Clothing. I was about to order a grey flannel from the Classic Flannel book through him last week.

    Bespoke trousers with special features:

    - exclusive 2-inch button cuff that opens 1-inch

    - creases not swung under the knee to fall at middle of foot

This is the pair I had a fitting for, and with a pattern already on file. I'll go the J.C. Penney next time.
