Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. You just inspired me to get myself a pair! They should arrive around the same time as my shell Cambridges, so I will be sure to post a pic of the brothers together!

Cambridge and Leeds are great choices. I think the colors of the new Leeds are darker burgundy. Please show us pictures if you have a chance to share.

Does AE make any storm-welted shell shoes?

Yes, they have a large number of shoes made on the split-reverse or storm welt.

Of their Shell Cordovan stock shoes, the following have the storm welt.
    -Leeds
    -MacNeil
    -Dundee
    -Norwich

With their MTO program, there are a lot more options available as well. Hope that helps!

Thank you! This is great to know!
Makes me regret passing on a pair of Dundee seconds in brown shell a while ago, before AE increased seconds prices

    Hey Mike,

Is walnut really close to ravello? It looks like it from those pictures...too bad AE doesn't offer that shell color no more...

I am afraid you missed it.
I bought a pair of AE chili Woodstock a week ago at USD149
It was about 30% off at factory second price.
I have been blaming myself for getting a pair of Black Park Avenue.

    Jeze,

Walnut Shell is pretty close to older Alden Ravello Shell. Walnut tends to have a little less red undertones in it.

    Walnut Left, Ravello Right

Walnut Shell is an AE only color from what I have been told, similarly to Alden having ownership over Ravello.

Was told there's a tent sale June 12-22nd after calling to ask. I didn't get any specific pricing details, but something to watch for.

Then they must be frequent as I took advantage of another a month ago.

I'd like to ask where (online) can I get dress belts to go with my new AE shoes (Brogue Suede Strands and Dark Brown Mora 2.0)?
The "wide basic dress belt" listed on AE's website is 35mm width, which I find it too wide for my taste (I'm about 5"8 btw).

I have 2 dress belts right now: one in chili and the other one in walnut - which I don't think they are suitable.

    * I have been blaming myself for not getting a pair of Black Park Avenue..

How do you all compare Allen Edmonds to Meermin/Herring?
These bands are at similar price. Which one has better quality?

I would love to give you a comparison, but Pepe at Meermin has told me that my feet are much too wide for any of their lasts.

That, along with fantastic customer service, and the availability of retail and outlet stores gives AE the win for me personally.

Though I WILL say that I do find pictures of Meermin shoes to be generally more attractive and pleasing to the eye than AE's classicly clunky American Midwestern aesthetic. But what good is that if I can't wear them?

Quote:Both are comparable in quality. Leather wise, both are okay, definitely not supple like those in the Indy line or the Carmina line. The biggest difference from my experience: Meermin: 270 GY welt, channeled stitching, sleeker last options AE: 360 GY welt Customer Service: AE hands down Accessibility (USA): AE hands down

3E in some AE lasts like 5 (some models a little snug), 3, and 1. Others like 2, 4 and 800 are still too tight. I wear 4E in sneakers like New Balance and Saucany.
