    An update:

I did send these webgems back immediately this week. The more I looked at the flaws the less I could justify them on a $500 pair of shoes. I must commend the staff of the AE Philadelphia store in particular and AE corporate in Wisconsin. I was concerned that maybe I was being too picky, however the AE staff seemed even more upset and perturbed than I was by the fact that these left the factory as firsts considering that these were the second attempt to craft the shoes after the first ones failed inspection. They did more than I or anyone on this forum would reasonably expect to correct the situation, so much so that I was somewhat embarrassed by the gestures made. This organization's focus on customer service really is astonishing compared to anything else I've ever seen before....by anyone. They went above and beyond to to make sure there was no sour taste left in my mouth following the obvious disappointment. AE Philadelphia gets an A+ for service above and beyond the call of duty.

Did anyone else notice the Eagle County is exactly the RL Illford boot in more casual leather and a canvas panel w/ a different sole? I ended up on a MTO configuration very similar to the Illford independently, and then ran across these pics.

    I ended up settling on:
    Burnished Walnut Calf upper
3 Speed hooks at the top of the lacing, brass eyelets
Dark brown contrast stitching similar to above (put this request in late so I hope she got it in, the picture above changed my mind)

    Independence leather insole
    Black split reverse welt

    Vibram mini lug outsole
    Brown transparent edge dressing

Looking to seeing the bourbon configuration from everyone as well

Merlot strands seconds after a rub down of conditioner cleaner and laces up with candy canes. Gonna wear them for the first time at my company's year end dinner. Let's see how the conservative higher-ups react! Hahaha

Out of privacy concerns, I'd rather not name names on the internet.[/quo

    so, what exactly they do?

Wow, I'm still waiting on samples, but thanks for posting that. I also independently had a configuration pretty similar to that. Which leather did you go with?

While riding out the ice storm - and watching some football - I thought it was a good time to spruce up my trio of #8's (l-r: 2013 AE Cambridge, early 80's Hanover PTB's, and 70's Florsheim Imperial LWB's).

Anyway, after brushing it was time to apply edging and it occurred to me that two of the three had black edging but one pair had dark brown. (The Cambridge has black). I was wondering if this is simply a matter of personal preference or if black is considered "preferred" for burgundy shell shoes.

    Thoughts?

My burgundy Sanfords have black edge dressing. I think either is fine, but I'd guess the default is black.

Whoops, didn't mean to leave out that part. Went with burnished walnut calf. Someone posted a pic of their illford next to a walnut strand, and it was very close in color.

Matter of preference. If you take a look at the Alden thread you'll see a lot of #8 with an antique edge and welt. I think it's equiv to AE's chili or "natural toasted." It all looks good! A black edge and welt give #8 a more formal feel.

I posted last week about ordering Long Branches. It's a shame with the snow in the NE this weekend that I don't have them yet to kick around in . Unfortunately, an urge kicked in this week and I ordered my first pair of Aldens: 404 workboots (Indy's) in Kudu with a lug sole. I wanted a boot I would be more comfortable wearing outside of work, and with the Long Branch being a wingtip I'm not sure it was going to be versatile enough for what I wanted. The Long Branch should excel as a bad weather shoe to wear to the office.

Even though they seem rather duplicative I'm contemplating keeping them both unless one or the other disappoints or appears capable enough to serve multiple roles. I will be picking up the Aldens in person at the local dealer this week, meanwhile the AE's will be drop shipped to me from Wisconsin upon completion of manufacture since there was no stock in my size available.

Thank you for sharing this. Just picked up Walnut/Brown/Black to keep my Bourbon/Merlot company.

By the way, if you contact the Market Street store they may price match these for you even in different colors. I bought my Bourbon and Merlot from them when they price matched the Nordstroms Anniversary Sale prices, even though neither of those colors were offered by Nordstroms.

My burgundy shell Daltons and Patriots have black edge dressing and I think it offers a nice contrast "framing". That said, I really like the brownish edging on my burgundy shell Kenilworths. Basically, you can't go wrong. :)

    Hi,
    First time poster here.

After reading posts on here, i reached out to the shoe bank and bought a pair of the Eagle County and Long Branch (grey), both at $99.

The Eagle. County's are tighter than normal, but are ok in length and do not hurt. Much tighter fit than the long branches. I was wondering if anyone had experience with whether the eagles would loosen up with wear. My Dalton's loosened up considerably. If the Eagles wear in any way the same, i expect they will eventually fit like a glove.

Thought i'd ask here before venturing out of the house with these. Thanks!

I haven't personally done this but from what I understand it shouldn't be too difficult. Another option is to send it to B Nelsons and have them take care of it. I definitely agree re the black welt and chili edge

Jumping on the Eagle County MTO bandwagon. Chili or burgundy/merlot upper?

What's the over/under for number of posts in January/February asking about Eagle County MTO boots that are too tight and/or have excessive creasing beyond the cap toe line?
