One thing to note, while this is an MTO Alden doesn't always follow instructions very well and have in the past changed specs on a make-up without Kathy knowing (case in point the whiskey Indy MTO). If this happens and say something is changed I hope that we all can be understanding and don't leave Kathy holding the bag on these boots.
Just PM'd my info, but I was worrying about this part of your quote. I wasn't in on the Whiskey Indy MTO - how badly was that screwed up from the original specs? I don't think I would leave Kathy hanging, but if there was some major error on the Thor boot (say, speedhooks instead of all eyelets), that would really kill the makeup for me. I would most likely bite the bullet and take it as is, but I definitely wouldn't be 100% pleased with the final product.
That's exactly what happened as the Indy came with speedhooks. Alden is a quirky company to deal with & it could happen again, so I just figured I'd disclose that now. This is as close to an MTO as we can get as Alden has suspended the individual MTO program for now. Kathy will relay all the specs that we layed down for the boot, but it is possible Alden may change it without her knowledge. Kathy would only know that when the actual boots are unpacked in her store. As Kathy isn't taking a deposit and IF a spec is changed she would be left holding a very custom boot in really customs sizes as not everyone is a D on this order. If anyone isn't fine with the chance our design is changed I'd drop out now, for while that change may not happen it could. Welcome to the world of Alden, and BG thanks for asking the question.
An ebay auction had just ended for a beautiful pair of Shell boots with perforated toe caps that looks quite similar to the Thor makeup here. They're the Trubalance last though:

Nice purchase.Yes. Definitely not the Trubalance last. Maybe Alden messed up on the MTO for this boot as well? From reading through this thread, sounds like they have a tendency to do that.
However, I think the military last suits the makeup very, very well. They really look like well preserved 1940's boots. I should know. I bought them on ebay.
I'm curious about who really would be legally responsible if Alden screws up the order. Full disclosure, I am NOT part of this pre-order, but wondering if Cathy decides not to accept them, because Alden gave her something she didn't want, if she would be able to get her money back from Alden if she tried? I know Alden is quirky, but for me screwing up something like this is not acceptable and I wouldn't pay for it if a boot that was supposed to be all eyelet was switched to speedhooks, in fact, had I been in on the pre-order, I'd probably have dropped out. Has anyone ever asked Cathy if she would be able to not accept the Alden order if something like this happened? I believe same thing happened with the number 4 wingtip boot from the ShoeMart, was originally supposed to have speedhooks, came all eyelets.
