Just ending 22 weeks on the Miller MTO. :cloud:

I understand MTO takes time but....

How much time is really involved, start to finish, in making up a pair of shoes? I should think it is a matter of weeks, not months.

It seems what makers are happy to do is to take orders and then stack up the production schedule months out. At some point, you would think that they would have to expand production capacity or stop taking orders until the backlog starts to go down.

    +1.

I know that shoes sit on lasts for roughly 21 days. I can't account for the rest of 19 weeks as well.

Many apologies for the long wait - I am sure it will be worth it. The main delay here was right at the start with a shortage of Horween Cognac shell in the UK - unfortunately this took almost 3 months to come in stock from time of ordering. The Miller boots are now in the final stages of making and I have been assured they will be lovingly completed within the month. Thank you for your patience.

My mistake I guess.....I never realized calves were born on demand so to speak....I wonder if this method runs throughout the economy....when I order an MTO suit, they get those lambs born and raised fast, the wool sheared, washed, and spun, the fabric woven....there must be some serious efficiencies there!

But seriously, I still wonder how long it takes to make the pair of shoes. And in the MTO industry there has to be a point at which the turn around time becomes a self defeating and unworkable business model.

I should hope so. The order was placed on 14 June. Not your fault, Julian - I'm just annoyed that AS has taken this long to fulfil the order.

Really makes me have second thoughts about ever going MTO with them again.

Sitting and waiting is always difficult. I am in on the Ramsey and Miller and as long as I've seen them lasted (which previous pictures have shown), I know it's more than halfway there. A few more weeks!

you will not be disappointed for having waiting so long... I am also waiting for the Ramsey in Whiskey shell...anyway I placed an order with AS for the Lombard in Whiskey shell, was promised 12 - 16 weeks and it ended up taking about 6 months but.... they were fantastic when they arrived.... so well worth the wait IMO!

Waiting should be part of the fun. Although I must admit I'm no good at it.

I will say my MTO Pimlicos from AS were worth the wait.

That's true. I'm really looking forward to the finished pair and it should be stunning by all accounts. Looking back over the thread, I saw the derby boots that AS made for the French forum and would love to get the burgundy calf and suede boot at the 3 o'clock position below. I probably still will although I'm not going count on a firm delivery timeframe.

Alfred Sargent has the Armfield (black cap) and Ramsey (DM) which are nice places to start.
