Except their pitching will be subpar

$25 mil to a guy who's a lock to miss 30 games is ridiculous.

Hasn't the world learned from the Arod contract not to sign aging power hitters to decade long contracts?

I was just wondering out loud. It blows my mind that with the speed of the game today these GM's are making such long deals with old players.

I don't think Arte wanted to be undone by Magic.

the advanced analytics have meta analysis already correlating that you should spend money on people up the middle:

catcher
pitcher
SS/2nd Base
Center fielder

its weird how the GM/Front Offices seem to be going hog wild with that this offseason.

josh hamilton is probably going to be moved to right field but it still falls in line with the analytics.

whats interesting for me is the yankees may actually do some drastic **** this year trade wise. lets say they dangle robinson cano to seattle for felix hernandez? the yanks aren't spending for free agents this winter obviously, but they have options.

if anything the redsox would have some nice packages for a hernadez trade (mostly involving jacoby ellusbury and prospects) but it looks like that organization is ironically turning into the 2001-2003 oakland A in the same scenario: team that formally spent on huge free agents, had a bash brothers 3/4 scenario (with PED implications) won a couple of championships - now starting to dump all the high priced players and go cheap/smart/mostly cheap

This is how he Giants signed/drafted/etc. Posey. Incredible pitching (although I think everyone's HUGELY concerned about Lincecum) Scutaro and Pagan

was just coming here to post it. unbelieveably stupid. this plus Pujols' 10 year deal shows that Artie Moreno is a complete imbecile.

The Angels got a HUGE TV contract and at the time the Dodgers were at a low point- sign baseball's biggest star and maybe you entrench yourself deeper into a new generation of LA baseball fans.

As for the Hamilton signing. I've got nothing... Allows the Angels to trade one of their OF's for pitching I guess? Trumbo and Bourjos are mighty attractive pieces, and Wells can be swapped in an albatross reclamation project (maybe... gulp... Lackey?). I'm just glad it's only 5 years.
