The link doesn't take you to the story - do you mind cutting and pasting?

Copy/pasted text: Bao Bao and Billionaire Boys... At Dior Homme.... More From Paris... by WWD Staff Posted Monday January 26, 2009 From WWD Issue 01/26/2009 TOM FORD SINGS THE BLUES: Tom Ford is taking designer denim to a whole new stratosphere with men’s jeans that retail for $990. The jeans, hitting stores now, are made from Japanese selvedge denim that feels and looks raw, but has been pre-washed and pre-shrunken so the indigo doesn’t rub off. They also come in black or white. The seat is distinguished merely by a straight line, stitched across the pockets, and a small black tab reading TF001 or TF002. The first number designates the boot cut that Ford wears himself, and the second is a straight-leg cut. In the front, the button is plated with 18-karat gold, and the pockets are lined with the same silk as Tom Ford suits. But is the price justified for classic, unembellished jeans? If you have to ask, you can’t afford them. We had a discussion a few weeks ago about whether TF would make jeans and I think I said, "if he ever makes them, given his price points... they'll probably be $800 or more." I guess they were even more than I thought. Yikes... does the world need more $1000 jeans???!! Well, I guess if TF is going in, he's FULL in on the stratospheric prices. In some ways, he's boxed himself into a corner. I hope it works for him, but pardon me for being skeptical...

i wonder if they're dyed with natural indigo? probably the only thing that could justify the price. I'm sure they aren't though.

There really isn't a reason to buy these except for the Tom Ford name. I doubt the quality of these surpasses the 300$ denim market out there by 600$...

Not to derail, but I thought it was only a problem if the tab was red.

I had heard it was any tab on the back pockets. In Kiya's post on sufu about the lawsuit he wrote "There are to be NO tabs attached between two pieces of fabric on the rear pockets". It could name specifically red tabs only, but I was not aware of this.

It's definitely not just red tabs. Soon after the lawsuit PBJ removed their blue tabs and Sugar Cane removed their green ones.

$900+ jeans. I'm sorry, but the first words that come to my mind are "F**k" and then "off".

Hmm . . . only one way to find out, will have to try them on. Sounds like the ex Gucci Maestro is bringing 'dem jeans back.

Incidentally, I'm looking at a couple of my limited editions Giorgio Armani jeans made by Big White in high performance hemp (whatever) and hemp/cotton . . . and what do I see? Platinum plated buttons, "series 002" label . . . and IIRC, the retailed for about 500 about a decade ago when they came out.

I didn't ask the price of the GAs back then and do I think they are worth it as I've owned them? They're nice, but no. Hopefully Mr. Ford can transcend the usual marketing and do something as timeless as Hedi did for Dior or Touitou for APC jeans.
