Paul Stuart Sales - Page 3

Well, we will see, but at this point, all I can say is we made a little progress sort of, while sitting in Stan's bar Friday, having a wonderful drink in our great capital city, I did receive a phone call with regards to just this subject, but......we will have to see, do not expect them by May though, they have not left London to the best of my knowledge. Will the PS sale be online, or only through the store?

Chris, it is a sample sale being held in an auditorium at The New School in NYC.

$285 doesn't seem like a bad price for Grenson's, if they're as well made as they're reputed to be...If I were anywhere near the sale, I'd drop a few hundred dollars for a pair.

For many, including myself, Paul Stuart was the place to graduate to, or aspire to, if you felt Brooks Brothers was stuffy and too conservative.  PS was the more sophisticated, more stylish cousin up the block.
By the same token, those who felt Brooks was way too avante garde and fashion forward would, of course, head for J Press.  Does anyone know if that heavyset gentleman who I believe managed the J Press store in NY is still around?  Very nice man and a fixture there. Grayson
Don't know but there was a notice in the paper, maybe 2 or 3 months ago about the death of David Kennedy, who'd worked for Press for years. I thought he managed all operations, but at least New York. Corrections appreciated.

Anyone been yet? Was gonna go in a bit.

Regular Grenson's (i.e. not Masterpiece) are $100 each. Masterpieces I didn't look at too closely, but they were I believe $180. Sport jackets were pretty ugly stuff that I would need to be at least 30 years older to pull off. Suits were decent, lots of conservative grays, blues, and pinstripes, with some glen plaids as well. Many of the suits looked to be at least a few years old, judging from the price tags. Most suits were $300, some were $400 or more. I ended up getting a suit and 2 pairs of the Ridgeway-soled Grenson's. The line to get in was ridiculous when I got outside at 9:30. I didn't look at trousers, since I didn't need anything in that department, and I already have too many shirts, so I can't comment on those either. Hopefully some of the stuff from this sale will wind up on eBay for SF members who unfortunately couldn't make it.

any overcoats?

Any of the Stuart's Choice suits? Or were they all Samuelsohn? How often does a sale like this occur?
If you are reading this and live in New York City, turn off your computer and go to this sale immediately. Incredible selection, incredible prices, but things are flying out of there.

both, but more Samuelsohn, and it obviously depends on what size you are looking at

Is there still a line to get in? B
I can only speak to my size (41/2 long), and I was mainly looking at conservative navy or gray suits. With that caveat, all the suits I saw were Samuelsohn (Made in Canada, retail price around 900-1000). Hopefully other members can comment on other sizes/colors. I didn't look at overcoats--not enough time and I'm already set in that department. I imagine that they have some, though, as they seemed to have something in every category imaginable.

Z, after reading that I wanted to punch you. It was almost like rubbing my nose in the fact that I'm not in NYC right now.

Exactly. I almost wish I had taken the day off, as I have lots of vacation days that I haven't used.
