I guess he really is one to be influenced by the opinions of others...
Well, aren't we all? I'm no psychic, but I get the vibe that he was hurt by what was written about him, even though he stresses that he wasn't. He actually stresses it a bit too much to be credible, if you look at this sentence at the end of his post, saying he will do something in the future to amuse himself, not others. Too bad he entered SF on the wrong footing. I don't remember his exact posts, but I recall I liked them. On a personal level I'm sorry for him. But then again, if you can't take some ribbing, don't put yourself out there for everyone to see. Fogey learned that the hard way.

Yup, I agree with you. I think it's a shame that he put down his hobby because he was made fun of. At least he had a hobby. But i'm wondering, with his website, he probably knew on some level that people will find it odd. I would never ever let someone I know in on my 'passion' for clothing. Precisely for that reason.

...snip..the penchant for dressing up in vintage military wear? Having an obsession is not such a terrible thing. There are obsessions and then there are obsessions. Have any of you ever been to a cat show?

Was he a member of this forum? I'm new around here, so I don't know everyone yet. Thanks.

Short version: Someone found this guy's website and posted a link. On his site there were dozens of pictures of him in vintage suits, mostly 3-piece, with watch fobs, etc. There were also pics of him in vintage military uniforms. The thread here went on at some length, and some of the posts were quite mocking. Eventually, the dude in question appeared, made a few comments, engaged in a little back-and-forth (and aquitted himself rather well, in my opinion) and then disappeared. That was two or three months ago.

Thanks, Manton.

Anyone have a link to the original thread? I can't find it.

Wasn't his site a more or less private one that was intended only for his friends to see? I think that was the whole point. Otherwise, nobody here would have heard about it if somebody else hadn't linked it.

And weren't those documents Sandy Berger shoved in his pants for "his eyes only".

The person who posted the thread did it with harmless intentions. I really enjoyed the writing - it was quite funny and SFW. Bummer to see it taken down, but if the guy wants to take a break I understand.

"The report states that a CIA official told the Senate committee that Plame "offered up" Wilson's name for the Niger trip, then on Feb. 12, 2002, sent a memo to a deputy chief in the CIA's Directorate of Operations saying her husband "has good relations with both the PM [prime minister] and the former Minister of Mines (not to mention lots of French contacts), both of whom could possibly shed light on this sort of activity." The next day, the operations official cabled an overseas officer seeking concurrence with the idea of sending Wilson, the report said."

I agree and did not mean to imply otherwise.
